Legal propositions: The prepositions are used in writing judicial documents are known as legal prepositions. Besides the use of appropriate prepositions, use of appropriate alternative legal words is imperative in Legal English writing.

The use of inappropriate legal words changes the sense of communication.

Few are the prepositions used in legal writings.

  • Accompany to: I accompanied him to court to witness a trial.
  • Accompanied by: He was accompanied by his friend to Advocates’s chamber to seek legal advice.
  • Accordance with: In accordance with the rule.
  • Adjourn to: The case is adjourned to next Monday for final hearing.

CLAT Syllabus 2021 in brief

The Consortium has designed the CLAT UG Syllabus based on the aptitude and skill required to practice legal education. There is a brief description to understand the Syllabus mention below:

English including Comprehension– You need to focus on English based comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be assessed on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein, etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs– In this Section the General knowledge will be evaluated on the general awareness including static general knowledge. Questions will be asked on current affairs will test the candidate’s on their knowledge of national and international current affairs.

Quantitative Techniques– The questions will generally of the numerical ability type of Class 10th standard.

Legal Aptitude– The section will majorly test your interest towards study of law, research aptitude and problem-solving ability. The questions will be framed on legal propositions and set of facts satisfying the propositions. The propositions may not be true in the real sense and you will have to assume the true proposition based on the set of facts and answer the questions accordingly.

Logical Reasoning– The question of these section of the purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the applicant’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. under this section the variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, visual reasoning will not be tested.

CLAT PG 2021 Syllabus

Here in this section, we are providing the information about CLAT PG 2021 Exam syllabus in a brief description. Let’s have a look.

Current Affairs Including General Knowledge

In this section, you will be provided passages of up to 450 words each. The passages will be derived from news, journalistic sources and other non-fiction writing. The questions may include examining legal information or knowledge discussed in or related to the passage. Still, they would not require any additional knowledge of the law beyond the passage.

Each passage will be followed by a series of questions that will require you to demonstrate your awareness of various aspects of current affairs and general knowledge, including:

  • Contemporary events of significance from India and the world;
  • Arts and culture;
  • International affairs; and
  • Historical events of continuing significance.

Legal Reasoning

In this section, you will be expected to read passages of around 450 words each. The passages may relate to situations or scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions or moral philosophical enquiries. You will not require any prior knowledge of the law. You will benefit from a general awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues to better apply general principles or propositions to the given fact scenarios.

Each passage would be followed by a series of questions that will require you to:

  • Identify and infer the rules and principles set out in the passage;
  • Apply such rules and principles to various fact situations; and
  • Understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various fact situations.

Logical Reasoning

The Logical Reasoning section of the UG-CLAT 2021 will include a series of short passages of about 300 words each. Each passage will be followed by one or more questions that will require you to:

  • Recognize an argument, its premises and conclusions;
  • Read and identify the arguments set out in the passage;
  • Critically analyse patterns of reasoning, and assess how conclusions may depend on particular premises or evidence;
  • Infer what follows from the passage and apply these inferences to new situations;
  • Draw relationships and analogies, identify contradictions and equivalence and assess the effectiveness of arguments.

Quantitative Techniques

The Quantitative Techniques section of the UG-CLAT 2021 will include short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial or diagrammatic representations of numerical information, followed by a series of questions. You will be required to derive information from such passages, graphs, or other representations and apply mathematical operations to such information.

The questions will require you to:

  • Derive, infer, and manipulate numerical information set out in such passages, graphs, or other representations; and
  • Apply various 10th standard mathematical operations on such information, including ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.

Q. What is the CLAT course?

A. CLAT stands for Common Law Admissions Test. It is an all India entrance examination conducted by the National Law Schools/Universities for admissions to their under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M).

Q. Why is CLAT important?

A. Importance of CLAT Preparation Like every other competitive exam, CLAT has a remarkably high demand. Moreover, with the desire to get admission to one of the best NLUs, students work very hard. The determination power is in full charge and they are willing to compromise on anything for their seat.

Q. Who can give CLAT exam?

A. CLAT Eligibility. Candidates should have passed the Higher Secondary School/Intermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and persons with Disability). Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also appear provisionally.

Q. Can I give CLAT exam after the 12th?

A. Yes, you can give CLAT UG after your 12 class exams. The CLAT or Common Law Admission Test is a National Level Law Entrance Exam held each year for the law aspirants of the country to get admissions and start their careers with the top and most prestigious law institutes of the country.

Q. What is the Salary of CLAT?

A. The starting salaries at most other places are alright, but not astronomical. Sadly, neither the media nor the CLAT mentors tell you about this. Renowned firms like Kochhar & Co., Crawford Bayley & Co. have a salary package of 4-6 lakhs per annum. A Supreme Court judicial clerkship pays Rupees 30,000 a month.

Q. Is CLAT negative marking?

A. Yes, Each question will carry one mark. Negative Marking: There will be a negative marking process. 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Q. Is the CLAT exam tough?

A. With over 40000 applicants and around 600 seats (for top NLUs), I would say pretty hard. Because of this, clearing the exam will be tough regardless of the level of the paper. Chose CLAT over procrastination This exam is based on std X level so it is easy for almost everyone.

Q. What is the passing marks of the CLAT exam?

A. To be eligible for CLAT, the students must have secured: (A) Forty-five per cent (45%) marks in Qualifying Exam (Class XII examination) in case of students belonging to Unreserved /OBC /Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and other categories. (B) Forty Percent (40%) marks in the case of students belonging to SC/ST categories.
