COVID-19: In a bid to reduce the transmission risk of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and improve essential hygiene, two students at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Roorkee have produced a herbal hand sanitizer. Students namely, Vaibhav Jain and Siddharth Sharma– at IIT Roorkee have prepared more than 1,500 bottles or 150 litres of the herbal hand sanitizer.
IIT Roorkee is the latest to join the list of institutes producing their own hand sanitizers. Amidst their deficiency in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, institutes namely IIT Hyderabad, IIT Delhi, IIT BHU have produced their own hand sanitizers in line with WHO (World Health Organization) standards. The hand sanitizers are made of 80% isopropanol/ ethanol and comprise of antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory herbal ingredients. It also works as a moisturizer.

World Health Organization Suggestion
Worldwide health bodies like the World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended washing hands or using hand sanitisers with at least 60% alcohol in them to safeguard against a coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.
Hand Sanitizers Cost
✔️The product has been produced in line with the guidance of the WHO (World Health Organization) and the CDC (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention) and hand sanitizers will be issued free of cost at the IIT Roorkee campus.
✔️Presently, 2 female researchers from IIT Hyderabad had produced a hand sanitizer. They had conveyed that it is to extend help during the continuing health crisis and not gain from it commercially.
✔️As we all that the coronavirus outbreak, the need/Demand for hand sanitizers across the world had skyrocketed leading to shortages and hoarding and surge in prices.
✔️The Centre has declared that face masks and hand sanitisers as essential commodities and has fixed the prices of these items.
✔️ The cost of a 200 ml bottle of hand sanitiser will not exceed Rs 100. “Under the Essential Commodities Act“, and the amount of fabric used two-ply and three-ply surgical masks will continue the same as it was on February 12,
✔️The retail rate of three-ply masks will be at Rs 8 per mask and not exceed Rs 10,” Paswan, the Cabinet Minister for consumer affairs, food and public distribution, said The Economic Times. He had posted this on social media
