Major Functions of AICTE
As per sections 10 & 11 of the AICTE Act (52 of 1987), some of the very few significant power and functions of the AICTE are as follows.
- Undertake surveys in the various fields of technical education, collect data on all related matters and make a forecast of the needed growth and development in technical education;
- Allocate and disburse various Fund to different Technical institutions and Universities imparting technical education in coordination with the Commission.
- Promote innovations, research, and development in new technologies, generation, adoption, and adaptation of new technologies to meet development requirements and overall improvement of educational processes.
- Fix norms and guidelines for charging tuition and other fees;
- Grant approval for starting new technical institutions and for the introduction of new courses or programmes in consultation with the agencies concerned;
- Take all necessary steps to prevent the commercialisation of technical education.

UGC approved is better as it will be internationally recognised. aicte is some govt recognition, but it will have no joint approval internationally. AICTE approval is deemed universities as a money-spinner for the colleges.
So if a student is joining a course that a UGC runs approved University and the University is not AICTE approved, then the student shall have no fear. The course’s main objective is to have a legitimate and legal degree, join a public sector or a Private sector job, do higher study, etc.
