IISER Aptitude Test 2019

The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research is going to conduct the IISER Aptitude Test 2021 examination. The IAT invites the admission form for those aspirants who want to get admission in BS and BS-MS (Dual-Degree) programmes at one of the seven IISERs colleges across the country.

The IISER admissions 2021 will be conducted in three channels: JEE, KVPY and SCB. Candidates can apply for admission through any of the three options, but they need to fulfil the IISER Aptitude Test 2021 Eligibility Criteria for each channel individually.

The IISER Aptitude Test 2021 is also known as the IAT entrance exam. The Institution will organize a national level examination, that is, the IISER Aptitude Test. Through this exam, admission in BS and BS-MS (Dual-Degree) programmes in seven institutes, namely Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tirupati.

Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants are advised to read the complete criteria before filling the online application form. Below we have mentioned the complete eligibility criteria required for applying to IISER Aptitude Test 2021 Examination.


  • The Admission Seeker should have qualified for the 10+2 or equivalent exam.
  • Subjects must be Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology as compulsory subject from any recognised Board for Secondary Education.
  • Candidates who are seeking admission to both these BS programmes Mathematics subjects at 10+2 level is mandatory. IISER Bhopal offers four year BS programmes in Economics and Engineering Sciences.
  • Candidates must have marks within the category-wise cut-off for their respective Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination for being eligible to get admission to IISERs. Additionally, for admission to engineering programmes through JEE advanced channel, candidates who have secured 75% marks (GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL) or 65% marks (SC/ST/PwD) in their Class XII (or equivalent) exams are also eligible.
  • Candidate must acquire at least pass marks in all the Four subjects as per their secondary board.

Candidates will be admitted to IISER Aptitude Test only through these channels.

  • Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel
  • Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology
  • State and Central Boards Channel (SCB)

Admission Channel (Eligibility Criteria)

Admission ChannelEligibility Criteria
KVPY ChannelApplicants who must have a valid KVPY fellowship commencing from 2021-22 academic session are eligible to apply for admissions. Additional cut-off criteria for marks obtained in 10+2 board examination is also applicable.
JEE Advanced ChannelApplicants in the General category must secure a rank within 10000 in the Common Rank List (CRL) of JEE Advanced 2021 are eligible to apply. For candidates belonging to the reserved category (OBC-NC, SC, ST, PD), their category rank should be within 10000. Additional cut-off criteria for marks obtained in 10+2 board examination is also applicable.
SCB Channel10+2 level with science stream in 2020 or 2021 are eligible to apply for admissions and appear for IAT 2021.
However, they will be considered for admissions to the degree programmes only if they obtain the cut-off marks specified for their board. Those candidates applying through SCB channel will have to appear in the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT).


All candidates of Indian national and candidates belonging to Person of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) are eligible to apply for IISER Aptitude Test.

Age Limit

There is no age limit for IISER Aptitude Test 2021.

Number of Attempts

According to official guidance, Each Aspirant will be able to attempt the IISER Aptitude Test only 2 times in his/her lifetime.

Q. What are the channels available for admission to IISERs?

A. There are three channels available for admission into IISERs:
KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana)
IIT-JEE (Advanced)
SCB (State and Central Boards).

Q. Who awards the BS-MS degree?

A. Each IISER is an autonomous institution. Therefore, the degree award by individual IISERs.

Q. I am an OCI/PIO cardholder. Should I apply as a foreign candidate?

A. No. You should apply through our regular application portal. International students are those candidates who are NOT citizens of India by birth or naturalized and do not belong to PIO/OCI category, and whose parents are not citizens of India and do not come under PIO/OCI category at the time of applying.

Q. Are there seats for foreign candidates other than PIO/OCI cardholders?

A. Yes. The top 10000 rank holders (including the foreigners) in the CRL of IIT JEE (Advanced) become eligible for admission to the BS/BS-MS programme of IISERs. Foreign candidates can apply only through the JEE-Advanced channel. Application of a foreign candidate through any channel other than JEE-Advanced will reject.

Q. Do I need to apply separately for each channel?

A. Yes. Applicants are required first to do the registration on the application portal. Then, this registration account could use to Fill the application form(s) of any of the three channels. Each channel requires a separate online application and payment of the application fee. The applicant must check the eligibility criteria for each channel through which they wish to apply.

Q. Do I have to write the IISER aptitude test?

A. Yes, only if you are applying through the SCB channel.

Q. What will be the mode of the exam?

A. The mode of IISER 2021 is computer-based (online).

Q. In which language will the test conduct?

A. The IISER 2021 question paper will be available in Hindi & English languages. Candidates will be able to choose as per their preference.

Q. I will be waiting for my 12th result in 2021. Am I eligible for an exam?

A. Yes, you will be eligible to apply for IISER 2021.

  1. sir, I am an employee in a government organization I have done my 10+2 in the year of 2014 from MP Board of Education. Now I am 24, can I join the BA/HUMUNITIES course in IISER. Please answer me shortly

  2. How PCM and PCB in 12th passed students can appear because
    of one subject not studied in 12th std. PCM No Biology & PCB No mathematics. IISER IAT exan consists all four subjects PCMB. Please clarify.

    Also clarify
    i-PhD is equivalent to Ph.D of other Uiversities. IISER i-Ph.D passed students can apply for teaching staff post in senior college. NET/SET is not necessary for students passed Ph.D. i-Ph.D of IISER is considered by UGC selection committee to work as senior college teaching staff.
