National Institute of Fashion Technology 2020


National Institute of Fashion Technology popularly known as NIFT is the apex institute for fashion technology in India. The institution was set up in the year 1986 under the guidance of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Now the institution runs under a Statutory Institute Governed by the NIFT Act 2006. NIFT Eligibility Criteria

Here are the updated eligibility criteria for the NIFT entrance exam 2020 for UG and PG.

Bachelor of Design

Candidates applying for B. Des. (Fashion Design/ Knitwear Design/ Textile Design/Leather Design/Accessory Design/Fashion Communication) need to fulfil the following:

Age Criteria:

Not more than 23 years as on October 1, 2019, for General candidates (Relaxation up to 5 years for SC/ST/PWD candidates)

Educational Qualification:

  • Successfully completed or appearing for 10+2 qualifying examination or equivalent from any recognized Board, OR,
  • Completed/Appearing for 3 or 4-years diploma final examination recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education OR
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB). OR
  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system. OR
  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

Bachelor of Fashion Technology

Candidates applying for Bachelor of Fashion Technology (Apparel Technology)– B. F. Tech need to fulfil the following:

Age Criteria:

Not more than 23 years as on October 1, 2019, for General candidates (Relaxation up to 5 years for SC/ST/PWD candidates)

Educational Qualification:

  • Successfully completed or appearing for 10+2 qualifying examination or equivalent from any recognized Board, having studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as a subject combination, OR,
  • Completed/Appearing for 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB). OR
  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. OR
  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Master of Design And Master of Fashion Management 

Candidates applying for Master of Design – M. Des. And Master of Fashion Management – MFM need to fulfil the following:

Age Criteria:

No age limit prescribed for PG programs

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized Institute/University, OR,
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum 3-years duration in any discipline from NIFT/NID

Master of Fashion Technology  

Candidates applying for Master of Fashion Technology – M. F. Tech need to fulfil the following:

Age Criteria:

No age limit prescribed for PG programs

Educational Qualification:

  • B.F.Tech. from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), OR,
  • B.E/B.Tech. from a recognized Institute/University.

Nationality

  • Citizen of India.
  • A subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Foreign National/SAARC/NRI/OCI And Domicile Categories:

Foreign Nationals (whether residing in India or abroad) and Non-Resident Indians, who are citizens of India holding an Indian passport and have temporarily immigrated to another country for six months or more for work, residence or any other purpose and who meet eligibility and admission requirements of NIFT can also apply for admission.

The selection of eligible candidates of this category for admission in NIFT will be based on their SAT/GMAT/GRE scores, and not on the basis of the Entrance examination. The availability of seats for this category is as follows:

  • 5 (supernumerary) seats each at NIFT Campuses Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Raebareli & Srinagar (J&K).
  • 3 (supernumerary) seats each at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna and Shillong.

Note: The GRE/ GMAT/SAT scores should not have been declared before 1st January 2018 and should be received by the Institute (NIFT) latest by 20th May 2020.

Seats will be offered for admission as State Domicile Preferential Seats to candidates who belong to the 8 States where
the following NIFT campuses are located:

7 supernumerary seats will be available in each campus (except Srinagar). Any supernumerary seats which remain
unfilled will lapse, and will not be converted into any other category.

*In the case of the NIFT Srinagar campus (J&K), 13 seats will be offered for admission as State Domicile Preferential
Seats to the domicile candidates of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). These seats are non-controvertible into any other
category.

Caste Criteria

  • Candidate’s seeking reservation as SC/ST/OBC shall have to produce a certificate in the prescribed proforma ONLY, meant for appointment to posts under the Government of India from the designated authority indicating clearly the candidate’s case, the Act/Order under which the caste is recognised as SC/ST/OBC and the Village/Town the candidate is ordinarily a resident of.
  • They must also ensure that the name of their caste/community and its spelling in their caste/community certificate should be exactly as mentioned in the lists notified by the central government from time to time (for OBC category list of castes recognized by the Govt. of India as OBC castes in the primary file is available on the site http://www.ncbc.nic.in, for ST category the list caste for each state is available on the site www.ncst.nic.in and for SC category the list of ranks for each state is available on the site http://www.socialjustice.nic.in). A certificate containing any variation in the caste name will not be accepted.
  • Further, the OBC certificate should also clearly indicate that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer as defined by the Government of India for applying to posts and services under the Central Government.
  • The OBC claim of a candidate will be determined with the State (or part of the State) to which his/her father originally belongs. A candidate who has migrated from one State (or part of the State) to another should, therefore, produce an OBC certificate which should have been issued to him/her based on his/her father’s OBC certificate from the State to which he (father) originally belongs.
  • No change in the community status already indicated in the online application by a candidate for this examination will be allowed.
  • Candidates seeking age relaxation are required to submit copies of necessary certificate(s) at the time of document verification

A. If you are applying for B.des, then you can crack the NIFT exam without math and science in 11th and 12th grade. B.F.Tech requires maths to pursue but otherwise, maths is not required to apply for the course or even not relevant to the field.

Q. Can we join NIFT after 10th?

A. No with 10th qualification your not eligible for NIFT Examination. If your to apply for this examination then you should complete 12th standard then only your eligible for NIFT Examination.

A. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the lowest 10% of full-time fashion design salaries, which includes the salaries of starting designers, averaged less than $32,500 annually as of May 2010, while the upper 10% earned more than $130,890 per year, and the median salary was $64,530 per year.

Q. How much percentage is required for NIFT?

A. You need at least 50% marks in 12th to become eligible for NIFT entrance exam. Admission in your choice of the institute will depend on your score in the entrance exam which is conducted by NIFT.

Q. How many semesters are there in NIFT?

A. The program is spread over 8 semesters, with the final semester being based on the candidate’s chosen stream of study.
