NIFT 2020 Exam Basic Guidelines
- Exam Mode: Offline mode (Paper Based Test).
- Exam duration: The duration of GAT written test will be 2 hours (for B.Des & M.Des) and 3 hours (for B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech).
- Number of Questions: Total of 100 questions will be asked in GAT for B.Des, and 120 questions will be asked for M.Des. 150 questions will be asked in B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech.
- Language: The paper medium will be English only.
- Papers: For B.Des and M.Des, two written exams will be conducted, i.e. GAT & CAT whereas for B.F.Tech, MFM & M.F.Tech only GAT will be held.
- Negative Marking: There will be 0.25 negative marking for each incorrect option.
Situation Test for B.Des
After the successful completion of the offline written exam, the board will declare the qualified candidates for the next round of selection. Only those candidate who will successfully clear the cut-off score mentioned by the board will be allowed for the Group discussion or Situation Test. Shortlisted candidates for B.Des from the written entrance examination are required to take a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. Since the medium of instruction in NIFT is English, the write-up will be in English. No marks will be provided for a write-up in any other language.
Group Discussions For All PG
Shortlisted candidates for Masters Programs from the written entrance examination are required to undergo Case Study based Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). GD would comprise approximately 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on a case study assigned, on which a panel of experts will assess the candidates on various parameters including:
