National Institute of Fashion Technology popularly known as NIFT is the apex institute for fashion technology in India. The institution was set up in the year 1986 under the guidance of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Now the institution runs under a Statutory Institute Governed by the NIFT Act 2006. The authority will conduct NIFT Entrance exam 2020 for the admission of students in fashion technology and Bachelor in Design programs offered by the 19 campuses of NIFT spread all across the country.

Syllabus for NIFT 2020


The authority will conduct NIFT Entrance exam 2020 Admission test for the admission of students in fashion technology and Bachelor in Design programs offered by the 19 campuses of NIFT spread all across the country. The weightage given to each test in the NIFT Entrance Exam is as follows:

Components of the General Ability Test (for all programmes)

  1. Quantitative Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates. The subject consists
    of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and
    Proportion, and Distance.
  2. Communication Ability and English Comprehension: This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the
    candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with
    corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one-word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, comprehend a
    situation from a given passage etc.
  3. Analytical Ability and Logical Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s capacity for inference and logic
    from the given information and to evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify the given problem and apply reasoning in
    solving the core issues of the problem. Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking are likely to be useful.
  4. General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s general knowledge and
    current affairs.
  5. Case Study: This sub-test is based on a situation of an industry environment. It helps to evaluate the candidate’s
    managerial ability.

English Language Syllabus


As it was the important part of NIFT syllabus. The English language segment will consist of Reading comprehension, Basics of Grammar and Vocabulary. Let us see the Topics which is to be covered, and weightage of each topic asked in the English language.

Numerical Ability


The Numerical Ability is often considered as the most difficult but scoring topic in any exam. In NIFT exam questions is asked and the toughness level is up to the intermediate level of Math. All you need is speed and accuracy to score high in the Numerical Ability Segment of NIFT Exam. So, the candidate must prepare according to the NIFT syllabus to score marks.

4. Interest 1-3 Questions Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Mixed Interest, Installments.
5. Mensuration  2-4 Questions Area/Volume of Square, Rectangle, Trapezium, Parallelogram, Rhombus, Circle, Semicircle, Triangle, Cone, Cylinder, Cube, Cuboid. Also, Moulding from one shape to another etc.
6. Percentage 1-2 Questions Calculation-oriented basic percentage.
7. Ratio & Proportion 1-3 Questions Simple Ratios, Compound Ratios, Componendo and Dividendo, Direct & Indirect Proportions.
8. Algebra 3-5 Questions Problems with 2-3 statements and 2-3 conclusions. Questions could be asked on whether the conclusions follow or not.
9. Profit & Loss 1-3 Questions Successive Selling type questions, Partnerships, Discount & MP, Dishonest Dealings
10. Time, Speed & Distance 1-4 Questions Relative Speed, Average Speed, Problems on Train, Boat & Stream.
11. Data Interpretation 5-10 Questions (1-2 sets) Line Graphs, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tables, Miscellaneous Infographics, Missing Data Type Caselets.
12. Time & Work 1-2 Questions Work Efficiency, Work & Wages, Pipes & Cisterns etc.
13. Permutation & Combination / Probability 0-1 Questions Basic Selection & Arrangement Problems, Fundamental problems on Probability
14. Mixture Problems 0-2 Questions Problems by making a mixture of two or more entities/mixture.
15. Number System 0-1 Questions Divisibility & Remainder, Multiples & Factors, Integers, LCM & HCF

The Reasoning is one of the most confusing and time taking segments in any exam. If you have practised a lot and possess a strong command over the tips and tricks used in Reasoning, then you can surely score high in the Reasoning.

Q. What is the salary of NIFT graduates?

A. The average pay of a NIFT passout is around Rs 2.50 lakh per annum, while the average salary received by an IIM-A graduate is Rs 6.50 lakh per annum.

Q. Can I join NIFT after 12?

A. Aspirants should have completed their Class 12 from a recognised board wherein they have studied subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates should have secured passing marks in their Class 12 exam.

Q. Is maths compulsory for NIFT?

A. If you are applying for B.des, then you can crack the NIFT exam without math and science in 11th and 12th grade. B.F.Tech requires maths to pursue but otherwise, maths is not required to apply for the course or even not relevant to the field.

Q. Can we join NIFT after 10th?

A. No with 10th qualification your not eligible for NIFT Examination. If your to apply for this examination then you should complete 12th standard then only your eligible for NIFT Examination.

Q. What is the monthly income of fashion designers?

A. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the lowest 10% of full-time fashion design salaries, which includes the salaries of starting designers, averaged less than $32,500 annually as of May 2010, while the upper 10% earned more than $130,890 per year, and the median salary was $64,530 per year.

Q. How much percentage is required for NIFT?

A. You need at least 50% marks in 12th to become eligible for NIFT entrance exam. Admission in your choice of the institute will depend on your score in the entrance exam which is conducted by NIFT.

Q. How many semesters are there in NIFT?

A. The program is spread over 8 semesters, with the final semester being based on the candidate’s chosen stream of study.

Q. Can arts student apply for NIFT?

A. Hi student, Yes you are eligible to give NIFT. Following are the eligibility criteria for taking NIFT 2020 entrance examination: The maximum age allowed for general category candidates as of October 01, 2019, is 23 years.
