Bombay High Court allows a girl to reappear for NEET-UG exam being held especially for Manipur students

Bombay High Court allows a girl to reappear for NEET-UG exam being held especially for Manipur students: Bombay high court permitted an 18-year-old girl to reappear for the NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Under Graduate). She could not complete the exam paper due to a broken wrist.

The exam is being held for the second time for students of Manipur. The examination is being held for the second time for students whose domicile is from Manipur on 6 June in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Dhanashree Jagatap contacted the Bombay high court to seek permission to reappear for the exam, where a vacation bench of Justices Manish Pitale and Neela Gokhale heard her plea. As stated by Jagatap, she arrived at the NEET-UG examination centre on 7 May but fell on the ground due to a rush in the queue, leading to a dislocation of her right wrist joint. In her pleas, Jagtap revealed that she was taken to a hospital nearby and, though was brought back to the centre, where she was allotted a writer but was not given extra time to finish her paper, due to which she could not attempt the last part belonging to the physics subject.

Seeking direction from the National Testing Agency to permit her to reappear. However, the NEET UG examination is conducted once a year due to the sudden outbreak of conflict in Manipur; the entrance exam is being held separately for state students.

Upon hearing her plea on Thursday, the union government said it was willing to permit Jagatap to reappear for the exam on 6 June on the condition that she shall not rely on the marks gained by her on the 7 May examination. Accepting this, the court said that she shall be permitted to appear in the NEET UG examination again along with the students from Manipur in Bengaluru, adding that the concerned authorities should take the necessary steps to facilitate her in appearing for the said examination.

“The petitioner shall file an undertaking within a week from today that she shall not rely upon the attempt she had given on 7th My 2023 for NEET UG 2023 examination,” said the High Court.
