Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is one of the prestigious institutes was founded in the year 1994 situated in Guwahati, Assam. At present the Institute has eleven departments and five inter-disciplinary academic centers covering all the major engineering, science, and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and Ph.D. programs.

IIT Guwahati has ranked its 7th position in Top 100 Engineering in India and 9th in the Overall in National Institutional Ranking Framework (2020).

Admission Process

B. Tech  One has to clear JEE Mains followed by JEE Advanced to get admission into the college.
M. Tech/MS /Dual/Degree Admission to postgraduate M.Tech programs is on the basis of marks obtained by the students in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE and through CCMT Counseling.
M. Sc Programs Admissions to M.Sc. Programs (Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science) are based on a valid score in IIT Jam followed by counseling (CCMN)
MA Written Test and Interview conducted by the IIT Guwahati.
M.Des Admission will be based on the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED).
PhD
  • Admission to Ph.D. Program through Departmental Entrance Test followed by Interview.
  • Final admission is done by evaluating Work Experience and past Academic Record.

Important Dates

The IIT Delhi has announced the official notification for the JEE Advanced 2020 Examination. According to this notification, the exam will be held on the 27 September 2020. Eligibility Criteria

B. Tech A Student should be passed the Final examination of the 10+2 system in Science with at least 75% marks (65% marks for SC/ST) from a recognized board.
M.Tech Candidates must be Passed B.Tech for any stream to the recognized university with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) and must be qualified GATE.
M.Sc Candidate must have a bachelor degree in Science to the recognized university with 55% marks (50% for S/ST).
MA A Bachelor’s (10+2+3) degree (Major/Honours) or equivalent from a recognized University, in any discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks or 5.5 CPI in a 10-point scale (45% marks or 5.0 CPI in a 10-point scale for SC/ST/PD candidates) in major/honours only.
M.S (R) A Minimum CPI of 6.5 in a 10-point scale or 60% of marks or First Class in B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc or equivalent in any discipline along with a valid GATE score or NET(JRF)/INSPIRE qualified.
Dual Degree
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering/Technology in any area or equivalent with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.
  • A valid GATE score in any subject.
PhD Candidate must have a Master’s degree in Architecture/Planning/Technology in relevant discipline.

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati awards scholarships to its under–
graduate/ post-graduate students to promote and recognize academic
excellence, and overall growth and development of meritorious students who
have passed their respective qualifying examinations.

  1. Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS): IMS is available for B.Tech./B.Des./M.Sc./M.A. students of the institute. The scholarship is meant for the year-wise class toppers of all the streams and is awarded from the second year.
  2. Institute Merit-cum-Means (McM) Scholarship: Institute merit-cum-means scholarship is awarded to non-SC/ST students in B.Tech./B.Des/M.Sc/MA of the institute strictly on the merit-cum-means basis and on the recommendations of the scholarship committee.
