A Day at Grigol Robakidze University (GRUNI) with Indian Students- Riya Sharma

MBBS Counsellor & Mentor Riya Sharma shares her real experience at Grigol Robakidze University (GRUNI), Georgia with Indian students- covering hostel, FMGE support, clinical training & campus life.

Riya Sharma, MBBS Counsellor & Mentor: When I decided to personally accompany five of my students to Grigol Robakidze University (GRUNI) in Tbilisi, I knew I wasn’t just taking them to another campus; I was taking them across continents, cultures, and life-changing opportunities.

Hi, I am Riya Sharma, with 5 years of experience as an MBBS Counsellor & Mentor and in the last 4 years, I made almost 20 tours to Grigol Robakidze University (GRUNI) in Tbilisi, accompanying Indian students and making them familiar with the environment and culture that I love and adore.

Back home in India, the frequent questions I encounter from parents and students are “How good are the facilities, especially for Indian students?” or “Can my son/daughter cope with the Georgian lifestyle?” or “Do GRUNI provide FMGE support?” and many like this.

Georgia has rapidly become a medical education hotspot for Indian NEET aspirants, offering high-quality, NMC-compliant MBBS programs, international exposure, and a lifestyle that feels like home yet pushes one to grow.

But what’s daily life like for Indian students at top universities like GRUNI? Let me walk you through what I saw, experienced, and learned, straight from the student community.

Good morning starts with a good Indian breakfast.

Mornings Begin in White Coats: Clinical Classes & Early Exposure

At both GRUNI, the day starts early, with students heading to hospitals and clinical labs by 8 or 9 a.m. I visited GRUNI’s affiliated hospital, PINEO, where Indian students were already engaged in supervised patient interaction.

Clinical rotations begin as early as the 2nd or 3rd year, offering hands-on exposure under Georgian and Indian mentors. Compared to Indian private colleges, where clinical access is limited, Georgia truly gives students an edge.

“We see real patients, assist doctors, and even present cases. That’s what keeps learning exciting,” says Priyanshi, a 3rd-year GRUNI student from Lucknow.

Classrooms With a Difference: FMGE Focus + Modern Labs

After clinical rounds, students head to classrooms and simulation centers. At GRUNI, I was impressed to see small group tutorials focused on FMGE/NEXT-based teaching. They have digitized Indian textbooks, audio-visual learning, and mock test practice as part of the regular curriculum.

GRUNI follows a more structured and research-heavy approach. The anatomy labs and skill centers are vast and well-equipped.

“At GRUNI, we prepare for FMGE from Day 1. Our professors, even Indian ones, guide us like family,” shares Karthik, a 2nd-year GRUNI student.

Midday Meals, Indian Mess & Hostel Comfort

By lunchtime, students either eat at the Indian mess provided on campus or explore nearby restaurants serving everything from butter chicken to Georgian khachapuri. The GRUNI hostel has a full-service Indian kitchen.

“It feels like home. The food, friends, festivals, we celebrate Holi and Diwali with full energy!” laughs Aarti, a GRUNI hostel resident from Patna.

Evenings in Tbilisi: Study, Explore, Repeat

Post classes, students typically revise, attend FMGE doubt sessions, or relax by the Kura River. Weekends are for sightseeing. Georgia is incredibly scenic! Students explore sulfur baths, cafes, and sometimes take budget trips to nearby mountains.

“We’re building both a career and a life here. My parents were scared at first, but now they say I’ve grown so much,” says Aniket, a final-year TSMU student.

Why I Recommend GRUNI: A Counsellor’s Perspective

I’ve worked with hundreds of MBBS aspirants. What makes GRUNI special is its:

  • FMGE-oriented curriculum & Indian faculty support
  • Affordable fees (₹35–40 lakh total)
  • Strong clinical exposure from early years
  • Safe hostel + Indian food facilities
  • Supportive environment with smaller batches

I chose to bring 5 of my students here not just for education, but for transformation.

Last but not Least

Studying MBBS in Georgia, especially at GRUNI or TSMU, is more than just academics. It’s about adapting to a global culture, building confidence, and preparing for India’s FMGE or global medical licensure exams.

If you’re a student or a parent, wondering if Georgia is the right choice, let this be your window into their world.

Life in Georgia is real, rich, and rewarding. And trust me, our students are thriving.
