Udaipur/New Delhi: In a blow to aspiring medical students, Geetanjali Medical College in Udaipur has been excluded from the MBBS admissions process for the current academic year. The move follows the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) decision to deny recognition for the college’s 250 MBBS seats, citing ongoing concerns about faulty faculty appointments and regulatory non-compliance.
With admissions already underway across Rajasthan, featuring 5,418 MBBS seats in 42 medical colleges and 1,342 BDS seats in 29 dental colleges, Geetanjali Medical College’s absence leaves a noticeable gap in options for NEET-UG qualifiers this year.
NMC Intervention and Regulatory Breach
The action stems from an NMC notice demanding Geetanjali Medical College provide Form-16s and other income tax documentation for its faculty. Authorities reportedly found irregularities in the credentials and appointments of listed teaching staff, determining that the college had not met the requisite educational norms for faculty selection.
Due to these discrepancies, NMC declined to renew recognition for the 250 MBBS seats effectively freezing admissions for the 2025–26 academic session. This follows a similar episode in 2024–25, when the institution was fined ₹10 lakh for violations but granted conditional seat renewal after compliance assurances.
Stringent Faculty Requirements
According to regulatory guidelines, a medical college offering 150 MBBS seats must ensure a minimum of 146 medical professionals on staff, including 114 faculty members. The breakdown: 19 Professors, 40 Associate Professors, 55 Assistant Professors, 32 Tutors or Demonstrators, and at least 58 Senior Residents.
Geetanjali Medical College’s struggle to meet these demanding standards underscores the NMC’s commitment to maintaining quality benchmarks in medical education.
