As NEET UG 2025 counselling progresses through multiple rounds, many medical aspirants who are allotted seats during the early phases may reconsider their options. Whether it’s due to better opportunities in later rounds, state quota preferences, or admission abroad, students may wish to resign from their current seat. However, understanding how to resign a seat without incurring a penalty is crucial.
This article explains in simple terms how candidates can resign their allotted seat during NEET UG 2025 counselling without facing financial or academic penalties.
What Does “Seat Resignation” Mean?
Seat resignation refers to a candidate voluntarily giving up their allotted medical seat. This can happen after Round 1 or Round 2 of counselling and is a formal process governed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota (AIQ) seats and respective state authorities for state quota seats.
