New Delhi: Over the past 10 years, India has added many MBBS and PG medical seats to meet the growing demand for medical education. From 2014 to 2025, MBBS seats have increased by 130% and PG seats by 138.3%.

Government data from last year showed that Tamil Nadu had the highest number of 38 government medical colleges, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
The government informed Parliament that it approved 75 projects under the PMSSY scheme to upgrade government medical colleges by building Super Specialty Blocks, and 71 of these projects are now complete. It also shared that 19 out of 22 new AIIMS have already started offering undergraduate medical courses.
