The NEET PG 2025 exam has been officially postponed to August 3, 2025. The exam was earlier scheduled for June 15, but the Supreme Court of India granted an extension to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to meet infrastructure and fairness requirements.

On May 27, 2025, NBEMS announced the postponement following the Supreme Court’s directive. The court has made it clear that no further delays will be allowed. Importantly, it has ordered that the exam must be conducted in a single shift across the country to ensure fairness and transparency for all candidates.

Why Was the Exam Postponed?

NBEMS had proposed a two-shift exam due to limited test centres, but the court rejected this plan. A vacation bench of Justices had called the two-shift idea “arbitrary,” stating that question papers in multiple shifts cannot be of the same difficulty level. The court insisted on a level playing field, where every candidate faces the same paper under the same conditions.

To meet this requirement, NBEMS now needs to arrange approximately 900 more exam centres and upgrade infrastructure, including internet security and computers. Although NBEMS expressed concerns about feasibility, the Supreme Court disagreed. It questioned why a country with such advanced technology couldn’t organize a single-shift exam.

What Happens Next?

NBEMS is now working to expand test centres and ensure secure exam venues. The board has confirmed that NEET PG 2025 will be held in a single shift, and all arrangements will comply with the court’s transparency and security guidelines.

What Should Aspirants Do?

Aspirants can now prepare confidently, knowing the exam will be fair, transparent, and secure. With the new date set for August 3, 2025, students have extra time to revise and plan effectively.
