New Delhi: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025, a national-level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate medical courses, will now be conducted in a single shift on August 3, 2025. This decision follows the Supreme Court’s approval of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences’ (NBEMS) request to reschedule the exam, which was earlier planned to be held in two shifts on June 15.
A bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and A.G. Masih allowed the NBEMS application, granting an extension for conducting the exam till August 3. The decision came in response to a petition challenging the two-shift format. On May 30, the Supreme Court had directed NBEMS to hold the exam in a single shift.
The court questioned NBEMS’s claim that there weren’t enough test centres to accommodate all candidates in one shift. Rejecting this argument, the bench stated, “We are not ready to accept that in the entire country, considering its technological advancements, the examining body could not find enough centres to hold the examination in one shift.”
