NEET UG 2025 Cutoff Drop: Government Seats Chances Rise for Students

The cutoff marks for MBBS admission in government colleges have decreased across all categories in NEET UG 2025, increasing the chances for thousands of aspirants. Check the expected cutoff scores required to secure a seat in government MBBS colleges this year.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially declared the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2025, conducted for over 22 lakh medical aspirants across India. Alongside the results, the NTA has released the category-wise qualifying cutoff scores for admission to undergraduate medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and others.

Despite the qualifying percentiles remaining consistent with previous years, 50th percentile for General (UR), 40th percentile for OBC/SC/ST, and 45th percentile for UR-PwD, the actual cutoff scores have seen a noticeable decline across all categories. This year’s cutoffs have dropped due to factors such as increased seat availability, broader score distribution among candidates, and a relatively tougher question paper.

Why Did the Cutoff Drop?

According to experts, several key reasons caused this year’s cutoff to fall:

  • More Seats Available: Both central and state government colleges added new seats, reducing the competition slightly.
  • Tougher Paper: The NEET 2025 question paper was more difficult than last year, affecting overall student scores.
  • Wider Score Range: Scores were more evenly spread among students, which lowered the marks needed for top ranks.

This drop in cutoff is likely to benefit many students aiming for government medical seats.
