NEET UG 2025 Cutoff May Change After MP High Court Re-Exam Announcement

NEET UG 2025 cutoff may change as Madhya Pradesh High Court orders re-exam for students affected by power outage during the May 4 exam.

In a recent major development, the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct a re-exam for NEET UG 2025 for students who were affected by a power outage during the May 4 examination. This decision may impact the overall NEET 2025 cutoff, as fresh scores from the re-test could change student rankings.

What Triggered the Re-Exam?

Over 100 students from Indore and Ujjain had filed petitions in the High Court, stating that a thunderstorm led to a power failure at several exam centres. These students claimed they had to write their NEET exam in dark or poorly lit rooms, which badly affected their performance.

The High Court reviewed video evidence, media reports and even a public statement by the Indore Collector, all confirming the disruption caused by weather conditions. The court noted that even a 10-minute power cut during the 3-hour exam could disturb a student’s mental focus, which would impact performance.

Who Will Get a Re-Test?

The court has mentioned that only those students who filed petitions before June 3, 2025, the day NTA released the provisional answer key, will be allowed to take the re-test. Students who approached the court after the result was declared will not be eligible.

Impact on NEET UG 2025 Cutoff

The court’s ruling means that affected students will appear for the re-exam, and their new scores will determine their fresh ranks. This could lead to a change in the NEET UG 2025 cutoff, as the ranks and scores of these candidates will be added to the main merit list.

While the NTA had argued against a re-test, citing logistical and fairness concerns, the court stated that the NTA has ample resources to conduct another exam of similar difficulty. It also noted that the NTA failed to submit CCTV footage, which is a required part of their exam monitoring.

What About NEET Counselling?

The NEET UG 2025 counselling process has been delayed; it will now start after the re-exam. That means seat allotment and ranks may change after the re-test results are added to the final merit list.

What Happens Next?

  • The re-exam will be held soon for eligible students.
  • Their ranks will be based only on their re-test scores.
  • The final NEET 2025 cutoff may shift, depending on how the retested students perform.

Note: This High Court decision could change the cutoff of NEET UG 2025 for many aspirants. Students, especially those on the margin of current cutoff scores, should stay alert and follow official updates closely. A fresh merit list after the re-test could open or close admission chances for many.
