NEET UG 2025: Factors Affecting This Year’s Cut-Off You Must Know!

NEET UG 2025 cut-off likely to decrease due to tougher exam and challenging Physics section, affecting government college admissions.

The NEET UG 2025 examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), was held on May 4 with over 21 lakh candidates competing for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other UG medical courses across India. Now that the exam is over, aspirants are eagerly waiting for the results and the release of cut-off marks for various categories.

Experts have analysed this year’s exam trends and shared important insights that could affect the NEET UG 2025 cut-off scores, especially for government medical colleges.

Major Factors That May Affect NEET 2025 Cut-Off

1. Increased Difficulty Level

Compared to NEET 2024, this year’s paper was more difficult, as reported by students and coaching institutes. Many candidates struggled to complete the paper within the given time, especially due to tricky and time-consuming questions.

2. Tough Physics Section

The Physics section was particularly challenging. It featured complex numerical problems, high-weightage from difficult chapters, and less straightforward questions. Even well-prepared candidates found it hard to score in Physics, which could pull down overall scores.

3. Likely Cut-Off Drop for Government Colleges

Due to the difficulty of the paper, especially Physics, the cut-off for government medical colleges is expected to drop. Students scoring slightly lower than last year may still have a realistic chance of getting a seat.

4. Rise in Number of Candidates

With a record 23 lakh+ registrations, NEET 2025 saw more aspirants than ever. Normally, this would push cut-offs higher, but the increased exam difficulty is expected to balance out this effect.

5. Category-Wise Impact

The dip in cut-offs may vary based on categories (UR, OBC, SC, ST, EWS). However, a moderate decline in qualifying marks is expected across most categories.

Expert Advice:

“Don’t panic if your score seems lower than expected. A tougher exam means lower scores overall, and the cut-off will reflect that. Stay patient, wait for the official key, and be ready for counseling,” says an expert from RM Group of Education.
