College Shuffling Dynamics

Round 2 is often called the “domino effect round”, where one change triggers multiple shifts.

  • High Rankers Move Up → Their earlier seats go to mid-rankers.
  • Mid-Rankers Get Upgraded → Their old seats trickle down to lower ranks.
  • Low-Rankers Benefit → Colleges that seemed impossible in Round 1 suddenly become available.

Example from NEET UG 2024:

  • A candidate with AIR 21,500 upgraded from a newer AIIMS to GMC Nagpur,
  • Which freed a seat that was grabbed by AIR 34,000,
  • Who left a deemed university seat that went to AIR 58,000.

Special Categories in Round 2

Round 2 doesn’t just benefit general category aspirants; it impacts all categories.

  • All India Quota (AIQ 15%): Many state-returned seats open up in GMCs.
  • Deemed Universities: Large seat reshuffling often benefits ranks up to 1 lakh.
  • Central Universities (DU, AMU, BHU): Reserved categories see major movement in this phase.
  • PwD / SC / ST / OBC: Relaxed cut-offs mean more chances to land government colleges in Round-2.

Note: Resignation is allowed only after Round 1. In Round 2, allotted seats are binding.

Key Advice for Round 2

  • Fill Maximum Choices: Don’t shortlist only dream colleges; include realistic ones too.
  • Don’t Ignore Deemed Colleges: If your budget allows, some deemed universities are better than lower-ranked private colleges.
  • Check Bonds & Fees Carefully: Many GMCs have 1-3 year service bonds; private colleges have variable fee structures.

Tip: Always keep a backup college in your list, especially if you are between AIR 30,000-70,000.

Round 2 of NEET UG 2025 counselling is the real opportunity window for most MBBS aspirants. With new seats, upgradation rules, and college shuffling, many students who missed out in Round 1 finally secure their dream college here.
