The National Testing Agency (NTA) told the Madhya Pradesh High Court that the one-hour power cut during the NEET UG 2025 exam in Indore did not affect students’ performance. Some students had complained that they had trouble seeing during the exam and had to use candles or emergency lights, which caused them stress.
NTA showed a report from an independent team saying that there was enough natural light at all 18 exam centres where the power went out. They also said that if the light had been really poor, students would have answered fewer questions. But many students from those centres answered a normal number of questions, and 11 of them even scored over 600 marks out of 720.
The government lawyer said that letting some students take the exam again would be unfair to the other 27,000 students in Indore who took the test without raising any complaints. He also said that the test results from all centres looked similar, whether or not they had a power cut.

However, the students’ lawyer said the power cut made it hard to focus, and that the NTA report didn’t show how stressful the situation was. They also said the report might not be fair because NTA formed the committee. The court will look into the matter again on June 30, 2025.
