The NEET UG 2025 examination held on May 4 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, faced major disruptions due to power outages. During a hearing on Thursday, the Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court addressed these complaints. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has responded by forming a committee to investigate the issues reported at more than 11 examination centres in Indore.
What Happened During the Exam?
On May 4, several examination centres in Indore experienced power failures, leaving many students in the dark. Some candidates were even forced to complete their exam using candlelight. As a result, over 50 affected students filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, seeking justice.
NTA’s Response
In court, the NTA informed the judges that it had set up a committee to look into the complaints of power outages and poor exam conditions. This committee will determine whether a re-examination should be conducted at the affected centres.

Legal Proceedings and Government Stand
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and lawyer Himanshu Joshi represented the NTA and the central government in the hearing. They assured the court that the committee would submit a detailed report and that the NTA would take appropriate action based on its findings. They also promised that the authorities would try their best to compensate the students for the inconvenience caused.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 26, 2025.
Impact on NEET UG Results
Initially, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had put a stay on the NEET UG 2025 results. However, the court later lifted the ban, allowing the NTA to declare results for the rest of the country, excluding the 11 affected centres in Indore.
The results for these specific centres will remain on hold until the committee submits its findings and the court gives further directions.
This development is crucial for thousands of NEET UG aspirants, especially those who were affected in Indore. The final decision on whether a re-exam will be held is expected after the court’s next hearing on May 26, 2025.
