New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an official directive instructing all medical colleges and institutions under its jurisdiction to observe Anti-Ragging Day on August 12, followed by Anti-Ragging Week from August 12 to 18. This move aligns with the advisory released by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on July 22, aimed at reinforcing a zero-tolerance approach to ragging in higher education institutions.
In its notice, the NMC emphasized that adherence to the anti-ragging guidelines is mandatory, urging institutions to ensure “strict compliance” with the UGC regulations. These include setting up monitoring mechanisms and actively engaging in awareness efforts to eliminate ragging from campuses across India.

As part of the week-long campaign, colleges are encouraged to host a range of student-centric activities. These include inaugural ceremonies, slogan and essay writing, poster-making, photography contests, debates, and street plays, all centered around anti-ragging themes. Students participating in these activities should be acknowledged through certificates and prizes, fostering greater involvement and awareness.
The UGC has also highlighted the National Contest 2025, inviting students to create digital posters, short videos, and reels that convey strong anti-ragging messages. Full details about participation, deadlines, and awards are available on the official UGC anti-ragging portal at www.antiragging.in.
Additionally, institutions have been advised to leverage social media platforms, post real-time activity updates, and include video messages from heads of institutions promoting anti-ragging initiatives. Suggested awareness efforts also include seminars, workshops, interactive sessions, and creative setups like selfie corners to engage students on campus in meaningful and innovative ways.
This coordinated effort aims to foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students across the medical education landscape in India.
