The Rajasthan government is set to expand its healthcare infrastructure and medical education capacity with the launch of two new government medical colleges in the 2025-26 academic session. These colleges are located in Jaisalmer and Tonk, and preparations are in the final stages.
The Medical Education Department has begun the process to secure approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for both institutions.
“We are getting two new medical colleges which will start functioning from the academic session 2025-26,” said Ambrish Kumar, Secretary, Medical Education, while speaking to TOI.
Jaisalmer and Tonk Medical Colleges Ready for Operation
The upcoming Jaisalmer Medical College will especially benefit Rajasthan’s western region. Dr. Chandan Singh, Principal Medical Officer (PMO) of Jaisalmer, confirmed that a 340-bed hospital building is ready, and all preparations for the medical college are complete as per NMC norms.

Similarly, Dr. Hanuman Prasad Bairwa, PMO of Tonk, said that the construction of the medical college and hospital is complete, along with hostel facilities and other required infrastructure. The Tonk Medical College is fully prepared to begin classes in 2025-26.
Government Medical Colleges in Rajasthan Rise to 31
With the addition of Jaisalmer and Tonk, Rajasthan will now have 31 government-run medical colleges, significantly increasing the number of MBBS seats and access to quality healthcare education.
Rajasthan Got 500 More MBBS Seats in 2024-25
Last year, in the 2024-25 session, Rajasthan launched five new government medical colleges in Nagaur, Sawai Madhopur, Baran, Banswara, and Jhunjhunu. The Union Government approved 500 additional MBBS seats for these new institutions.
