RGUHS to Launch Skill Labs: On the occasion of its 30th Foundation Day (June 29, 2025), the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) announced expansion of its infrastructure in Karnataka. According to Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bhagwan B.C., the university will establish state-of-the-art skill laboratories at six locations and set up constituent model colleges to elevate clinical training across the state.
As per a recent report by The New Indian Express, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is establishing six advanced skill laboratories across Karnataka to enhance clinical training.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, these labs and newly proposed model colleges will be directly administered by RGUHS to ensure uniform standards and innovation in medical education.

Strategic Locations & Infrastructure Development
- Skill labs will be set up in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Davanagere, Kalaburagi, Mysuru, and Hubli.
- Buildings in Davanagere and Kalaburagi are already complete; the remaining sites are under construction.
- A new permanent administrative campus in Bengaluru is nearing completion. The Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone in January, with a planned 21-month construction period.
- RGUHS has requested 180 acres of land from the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) for ongoing and future expansion.
Purpose & Academic Vision
The skill laboratories will serve as centralised hubs for simulation-based medical training. These labs will function as centralised training centers to:
- Promote clinical competency
- Enhance patient safety
- Ensure hands-on practical proficiency
- Drive clinical excellence through immersive training techniques
Dr. BC also emphasised that the four upcoming constituent model colleges, directly run by RGUHS, will uphold high-quality teaching standards and foster innovation in healthcare education.

Why Simulation-Based Training Matters
Simulation centers are recognised worldwide as critical tools for clinical training. A 2021 PubMed review noted that simulation-based education enhances skill acquisition in procedural tasks, ranging from CPR to invasive procedures, within a controlled environment, promoting patient safety and competency before trainees interact with real patients.
Such labs typically include:
- Mannequins for CPR, pediatric, adult, obstetric, and neonatal scenarios
- High-fidelity simulators replicating surgery, trauma, and critical care
- Debriefing rooms and audiovisual systems for guided reflection and feedback
Impact on Healthcare Education in Karnataka
- Uniform Excellence: Centralised labs ensure consistent training across all RGUHS-affiliated institutions.
- Scalable Capacity: With facilities at six sites and four academic colleges, RGUHS significantly boosts its reach.
- Future-Ready Workforce: Trained graduates will enter clinical practice with hands-on proficiency and readiness.
- Strategic Expansion: The new Bengaluru campus and 180-acre land acquisition position RGUHS as a national leader in medical education.
By integrating simulation-based skill labs and model colleges, RGUHS is raising the bar for medical training in Karnataka. This bold initiative ensures aspirants are not only academically prepared but also clinically competent and patient-ready from day one. As these facilities become operational, RGUHS is poised to make a meaningful impact on healthcare education, ultimately benefiting patient care across the region.
