Madhya Pradesh is going to increase its medical education capacity with the addition of 200 MBBS seats in the government colleges for the 2025-26 academic session. This expansion will take effect during the ongoing MP NEET UG counselling 2025 process.

MP to Add 200 Govt MBBS Seats

The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has approached the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for permission to establish two new government medical colleges, one each in Sheopur and Singrauli.

Each of these colleges is expected to offer 100 MBBS seats, potentially increasing the total number of government medical colleges in the state to 19 from the current 17.

MP MBBS Seat Expansion Future Plan

The expansion doesn’t stop here.

For the 2026–27 session, the DME plans to establish six more medical colleges, which could add around 600 MBBS seats to the state’s capacity, bringing the total to 25 medical colleges.

A key part of this strategy includes converting district hospitals in Betul, Panna, Dhar, and Katni into full-fledged medical colleges under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

These plans originated during the MP GIS investor meet and are now ready for formal implementation.

MP Current MBBS Seat Dynamics

Madhya Pradesh currently offers about 4,775 MBBS, split between 2,575 in government colleges and 2,200 in private institutions.

Earlier, MP had 5,075 MBBS seats but it came down to 4,775 after 300 MBBS Seats removed from MP NEET UG 2025 counselling matrix.

With the proposed 200 seat increase, government medical seats would expand from 2,575 to 2,775, making admission slightly more accessible for state NEET aspirants.

However, a recent report highlights that the demand-supply gap remains high, with 15,129 candidates vying for just 4,775 MBBS seats, emphasising the intense competition in MP’s NEET counselling.
