NMC Mandates FACE-Based Aadhaar Attendance: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has mandated FACE-based Aadhaar Attendance. It officially announced the discontinuation of facial QR code-based wall-mounted attendance devices across all medical colleges and institutions under its jurisdiction.
This marks a significant step in modernising attendance systems through FACE-based Aadhaar Authentication via mobile applications.
What is FACE-Based Aadhaar Attendance?
FACE-Based Aadhaar Attendance is a modern, biometric system introduced by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to streamline and secure attendance marking for medical faculty. Instead of relying on traditional fingerprint scanners or wall-mounted QR code devices, this system leverages face recognition technology linked to Aadhaar, India’s unique identity system.
Key Features:
Biometric Verification via Mobile App
- Faculty members use a mobile app available on both Android and iOS.
- The app verifies attendance using the faculty member’s face, matched against their Aadhaar-linked biometric data.
Integration with NMC AEBAS
- The FACE system is directly linked with the Automated Electronic Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS).
- Real-time monitoring of attendance ensures accuracy and prevents proxy marking.
Convenience and Flexibility
- Attendance can be marked anywhere within the college campus, as long as GPS verification confirms the location.
- Eliminates the need for wall-mounted hardware, reducing maintenance and operational costs.
Secure and Reliable
- Uses UIDAI’s face biometric technology, which is highly accurate and secure.
- Prevents fraudulent attendance and ensures accountability.
Mandatory Compliance
- All faculty members must install the FACE-based Aadhaar Authentication app.
- GPS points within the college campus are registered for accurate attendance tracking.
By replacing outdated QR code and fingerprint devices, FACE-Based Aadhaar Authentication modernizes attendance systems, aligns with India’s digitization initiatives, and ensures transparent, accountable, and efficient attendance management in medical colleges.

NMC Mandates FACE-Based Aadhaar Attendance: Key Highlights
Discontinuation of QR Code Devices
- From 1st October 2025, all facial QR code-based wall-mounted attendance devices have been permanently removed from medical colleges and institutions.
- Colleges are required to ensure a smooth transition to the FACE-based mobile app system.
Mandatory Use of Mobile FACE Authentication App
- All faculty members must install the FACE-based Aadhaar Authentication App on their smartphones.
- The app is available on both the Android Play Store and Apple App Store.
- The user manual for app installation and usage was shared in the earlier notice dated 16-04-2025.
Role of Medical Colleges & Institutions
- Institutions must remove QR code devices and ensure all faculty members have the app installed.
- Colleges need to share the GPS locations of points where attendance can be marked, within a 100-meter radius.
- GPS information, along with nodal officer contact details, should be emailed to [email protected] with a proper signature and stamp of the Dean/Principal.
- The email subject format: “Face
AEBAS - <College Full Name> - <College City>".

NMC’s Push Towards Digital Modernisation
The NMC’s shift from facial QR code and fingerprint devices to a mobile-based FACE Aadhaar Authentication App is a major leap towards digital transformation in medical education.
This initiative ensures accuracy, accountability, and efficiency in faculty attendance management while aligning with India’s nationwide digitisation efforts.

If we go as an external or internal examiner, then how is it possible to AEBAS
Under the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines, all faculty members, including external and internal examiners, are required to mark their attendance through the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS).
Even if you are serving as an external examiner, you must ensure that your Aadhaar-linked biometric data is registered in the AEBAS system of the respective institution. This is essential for compliance with the NMC’s attendance tracking requirements.
