Tamil Nadu Counselling: The Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Tamil Nadu, has issued an important notification on the redistribution of seats in medical admissions. According to the directive, all unfilled NRI quota seats and seats reserved for linguistic and religious minority candidates will now be moved to the general management quota in the upcoming rounds of counselling for the 2025-26 academic session.
This order has been released in line with the Management Quota Prospectus G.O.(D) No.602, dated June 5, 2025, issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department. The provision ensures that seats from special categories are not left vacant but are instead reassigned to the management quota for optimal use.
Seat Redistribution Rules
| Category of Seat | If Vacant, Moved To | Implication |
| NRI Quota Seats | Management Quota | More seats open for general applicants under management quota |
| Linguistic Minority Quota | Management Quota | Ensures no reserved seats remain vacant |
| Religious Minority Quota | Management Quota | Wider opportunities for management quota aspirants |
What Students Should Keep in Mind?
- The reallocation will apply to all current and future counselling rounds for the academic year 2025–26.
- Candidates applying under the management quota should track updates carefully, as the number of seats available can increase dynamically.
- Students must rely only on official notices from the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai, to avoid confusion.
The Selection Committee has assured that the process will be implemented with transparency and will reflect in the upcoming rounds of counselling.
