Choice 4 and Seat Cancellation: Who Can Do What
KEA has set out three situations for candidates.
- Allotted seats in both MCC and KEA counselling: If you want to take the seat allotted in MCC Round 3, you can exit KEA seat allotment by selecting Choice 4 on the KEA website. No penalty applies. This must be done on or before 12 noon on 5 October 2026.
- Reported to a college in KEA Round 1 or 2, and want the MCC Round 3 seat: You can cancel the KEA-allotted seat by paying a penalty of Rs 10,000, on or before 12 noon on 5 October 2026.
- Want the Round 3 seat of another state’s counselling, or do not want the KEA Round 3 seat: You can cancel the KEA seat by paying a penalty of Rs 10,000, on or before 12 noon on 5 October 2026.
Candidates who exit KEA counselling through any of these routes will not be eligible for the next rounds conducted by KEA.
Retaining the KEA Round 3 Seat
Candidates who joined a college in MCC Round 1 or 2, were allotted an MCC Round 3 seat, and also got a KEA Round 3 seat can keep the KEA seat without exiting KEA counselling. They must email keauthority-ka@nic.in with the subject “Confirmation of My KEA Seat”. The email must carry the CET number, name and rank, and must be sent on or before 12 noon on 5 October 2026.
What Happens Next: Re-Run of Round 3 Allotment
KEA says seats cancelled under Choice 4 will be reused. It will re-run the Round 3 allotment for medical and dental courses to offer them to eligible Round 3 candidates.
- The re-run will use the options candidates have already entered. No changes to existing options are allowed.
- New provisional results will then be published. Candidates may be considered for an upgrade to higher-preference seats, subject to seat availability and allotment rules.
- Once the revised provisional results are announced, Choice 4 and cancellation will no longer be available.
- Round 3 final results will be published after that.
Surrender Penalty After Final Results
- If a candidate surrenders a seat after the Round 3 final results but before the last date for entering stray vacancy round options, the penalty is Rs 1,10,000 for medical seats and Rs 60,000 for dental seats.
- Surrender requests will not be entertained after the last date for stray vacancy round option entry. Such candidates cannot take part in counselling for the next three years, and MCC will also be informed.
- KEA has also warned that refusing an allotted college or course, or leaving after joining, is a serious lapse in social responsibility, since other candidates are waiting for seats.
What Candidates Should Do Next
- Check your Round 3 provisional result on the KEA website.
- Decide whether to keep the KEA seat, select Choice 4 or cancel.
- Complete your chosen action before 12 noon on 5 October 2026.
