MCC 2025 Round 3 Choice-Filling Extended Till 13 Oct

The MCC’s decision to extend the choice-filling window gives students more time to review their preferences and reorder college options based on the newly updated seat matrix.

Many candidates who were initially unsure or dissatisfied with their previous allotments can now:

  • Update their choice lists as per new seat additions
  • Include newly approved colleges
  • Reconsider preferences based on Round 2 closing ranks

Why Did MCC Extend the Round 3 Choice-Filling?

The main reason behind the extension is the sudden addition of new NMC-approved MBBS seats across various states. The NMC has been continuously approving new colleges and expanding existing ones to meet India’s healthcare workforce goals.

This directly affects Round 3 counselling; more seats mean higher chances of allotment, especially for low-rank NEET aspirants who were left out earlier.

MCC 2025: Allegations and Internal Challenges at NMC

Before NEET UG 2025 counselling started, medical college scrutiny was at its peak. NMC cancelled seat renewals at 6 medical colleges after a CBI investigation and cancelled 200 MBBS seats of JNMC (Belagavi, Karnataka)

This kind of news was frequent.

The integrity of NMC was itself in question because there was an allegation of involvement of an NMC official in the CBI medical college accreditation case.

The Medical Accreditation and Rating Board (MARB) is the sole body which approves new medical colleges in India and also gives permission to add new MBBS seats after thorough evaluation. MARB is one of the 4 autonomous bodies of NMC which is grappling with vacanct top posts. This NMC-MARB vacancies raise questions on medical college ratings process.

Then, a general question arises: “How is NMC evaluating medical colleges and how is it increasing MBBS seats in record numbers?”

The MBBS Seat Boom: Blessing for NEET 2025 Aspirants

Before diving into strategy, it’s essential to understand how the MBBS seat bonanza is bringing hope to NEET aspirants and how they need to adapt their MCC 2025 round 3 choice-filling strategy.

On 24 September, the Union Cabinet approved the Phase III medical college expansion plan, and 5023 MBBS seats were added. This is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Medical College Expansion in India: CSS Phase 1-2-3 plan to add 75,000 medical seats in India in the next five years.

With this, NMC fast-tracked medical colleges and MBBS seat approvals.

One of the significant developments leading up to Round 3 is that the NMC continues to approve new medical colleges and seat expansions, even for the 2025-26 academic year.

This comes after NMC was ordered not to freeze new medical colleges or MBBS seats, the Government revealed in the Rajya Sabha. There is no freeze on approvals.

Here’s how to approach Round 3 with clarity and confidence:

Make a Priority List

  • Divide colleges into three categories, Dream, Safe, and Backup.
  • Put your dream colleges first but ensure you also include realistic options.

Study Previous Rounds’ Cutoffs

  • Check Round 1 and Round 2 closing ranks on.
  • This will help you predict where you stand.

Include Newly Approved Colleges

  • Newly added colleges may have lower competition, making them excellent backup options.

Recheck Seat Matrix Before Final Lock

  • MCC updates the seat matrix frequently, recheck on official website, mcc.nic.in, just before locking your choices to avoid missing out on new seats.

Don’t Leave Gaps or Skip Options

  • Each unfilled slot reduces your chances.
