The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has clarified that the notice claiming a reduction in the qualifying percentile for NEET UG Counselling 2026 is fake. In an advisory issued on October 13, 2026 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC), MCC stated that no such decision has been taken by the competent authority.
What does the MCC advisory say?
MCC said it received information that a “notice” about lowering the percentile for NEET UG Counselling 2026 was being circulated in the public domain. The committee has confirmed that no decision on percentile reduction has been taken and that the circulated notice is fake.
What did the fake notice claim?
The fake notice, dated October 12, 2026 and carrying a forged reference number (U-12021/05/2024-MEC), was made to look like an official MCC communication. It claimed that, on the decision of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in consultation with the National Medical Commission (NMC), the qualifying percentile had been lowered as follows:
- General/EWS category: 15 percentile and above
- SC/ST/OBC/PwD category: 10 percentile and above
MCC has marked this notice as fake, and these eligibility criteria are not valid. Candidates should not act on them.
