The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), functioning under the Directorate General of Health Services, Government of India, has issued a fresh notice directing all Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and NRI candidates participating in MCC counselling to get their credentials verified before choice filling begins.

What the Notice States

According to the official notice (Ref: U-11011/07/2026-MEC) dated August 6, 2026, OCI and NRI candidates must first have their documents checked and cleared by the NRI Document Verification Team of MCC in order to establish their eligibility under the NRI category, wherever applicable.

The notice clarifies that only after successful verification of documents and confirmation of eligibility will such candidates be able to view both NRI seats and Indian Unreserved (UR) seats during the choice filling process. Once verified, candidates can then exercise their seat preferences based on the options displayed to them.

Action Required from Candidates

MCC has specifically asked eligible candidates to select ‘YES’ for the question “Whether you want to apply for NRI Quota seats” at the time of registration for counselling.

All OCI and NRI candidates have been strongly advised to complete the document verification process well in advance, as failure to do so may lead to inconvenience or delays during the choice filling stage of counselling.

Why This Matters

This notice is significant for candidates relying on the NRI quota, as incomplete or unverified documentation could restrict their ability to view and select NRI seats during counselling rounds. Candidates are encouraged to keep all relevant OCI/NRI proof documents ready and stay updated through the official MCC channels for further instructions.

Candidates can reach out to the MCC office via email at [email protected] for further clarification or assistance regarding the verification process.
