Key Directions for Medical Colleges
The NMC’s public notice accompanying the seat matrix lays down important compliance directions for medical colleges and counselling committees:
- All Private Medical Colleges granted permission for a new college or increased intake, but who have not yet furnished the requisite Electronic Bank Guarantee (E-Bank Guarantee), must submit it within seven days from the date of the notice, in favour of the Director, MARB
- E-Bank Guarantee details must be communicated via email to the designated NMC addresses; the Letter of Permission (LoP) will be issued only after verification of the guarantee
- The Seat Matrix remains subject to revision based on further decisions of the Appeal Committee(s) or any competent authority
- No Counselling Committee can permit admission in excess of the seats approved and notified by MARB, under any circumstances
- Any discrepancy noticed by a college in its own listed data must be reported immediately to the President/Director, MARB, preferably before counselling begins
Compliance Warning for Colleges
The notice reiterates that all medical colleges must strictly ensure admissions are made only against the approved number of seats. Any admission made in excess of the approved intake capacity will be treated as non-compliance with the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, and will attract regulatory and penal action against the defaulting college or institution.
The updated matrix has also been forwarded to the Department of Medical Education of all States/UTs, the Nodal Officer of MCC (DGHS), and other stakeholders for necessary action, and will be taken into consideration by the Central and respective State Counselling Committees during the ongoing NEET UG 2026 counselling process.
