Chandigarh: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot has released the tentative seat matrix for MBBS and BDS admissions in Punjab for the 2026 academic session. The seat matrix, published as part of the admission prospectus, gives candidates an early indication of the total intake across government, private, and minority medical and dental colleges in the state ahead of NEET UG 2026 counselling.
According to the university, the matrix is provisional and the final seat count will be confirmed only during counselling, after incorporating government notifications, statutory approvals, college affiliation status, and any other directives issued by the competent authority.
MBBS Seats: Around 1,800 Across Punjab
For MBBS admissions, Punjab’s five government medical colleges have a combined intake of 900 seats. These are distributed as follows:
- Government Medical College, Amritsar – 250 seats
- Government Medical College, Patiala – 250 seats
- Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot – 250 seats
- Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical Institute of Sciences, Mohali – 100 seats
- ESIC Medical College, Ludhiana – 50 seats
Of the total government college intake, 15% (134 seats) is reserved under the All India Quota (AIQ), while the remaining 741 seats fall under the State Quota, further divided among Open, SC, BC, EWS, NRI, and other reserved categories such as Sports, Backward Area, Border Area, TA, RA, Defence, PP, FF, and Persons with Disabilities.
Private medical colleges in the state — Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences (Bathinda), Dayanand Medical College (Ludhiana), Gian Sagar Medical College (Patiala), PIMS (Jalandhar), and RIMT (Mandi Gobindgarh) — together offer around 650 seats, split roughly equally between the Government quota and Management quota at each institution.
Minority quota institutions add further seats: Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Amritsar (150 seats) and Christian Medical College, Ludhiana (100 seats).
Taken together, MBBS seats across government, private, and minority medical colleges in Punjab add up to approximately 1,800.
BDS Seats: Around 1,490 Across the State
On the dental side, Punjab’s two government dental colleges — Government Dental College, Amritsar and Government Dental College, Patiala — offer 50 seats each, totalling 100 seats, with 15% reserved under AIQ and the rest under the State Quota.
Thirteen private dental colleges across the state, including institutions in Bathinda, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Patiala, Mohali, and Mandi Gobindgarh, together account for roughly 1,250 seats, again split between Government and Management quotas.

In total, BDS seats across Punjab work out to approximately 1,490.
Combined MBBS + BDS Intake: Over 3,290 Seats
Put together, the tentative seat matrix indicates more than 3,290 MBBS and BDS seats available across Punjab’s government, private, and minority medical and dental colleges for the 2026 session.
Key Points for Candidates
BFUHS has flagged several important caveats for NEET UG aspirants applying to Punjab colleges this year:
- The seat matrix is tentative and subject to revision before or during counselling.
- Seat numbers may change based on approvals from statutory authorities, affiliation status granted by BFUHS, government notifications, or surrender/withdrawal of seats by institutions.
- Category-wise distribution of seats will be published separately before each round of counselling.
- Reservations will strictly follow the Punjab Government Reservation Policy.
- Admissions will be made only against seats approved for the 2026 academic session.
- The university’s decision on final seat availability and distribution will be final and binding.
