Tamil Nadu MBBS/BDS Round 3 Schedule 2026: 7.5% Quota, Resignation

The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DME), Chennai has released the tentative Round 3 counselling schedule for MBBS and BDS admission in 2026-27 under the 7.5% seat reservation for Tamil Nadu Government School students. A separate notice says the resignation portal opens on September 28, 2026.

About the Round 3 Counselling

Round 3 is for re-allotment and allotment of seats in Tamil Nadu Government Medical and Dental Colleges, ESIC Medical College (K.K. Nagar, Chennai), Government Quota seats in Self Financing Medical and Dental Colleges, and State Private Universities.

Who Should Register for Round 3

• Candidates who were not allotted any seat must register for Round 3.
• Candidates who joined in Round 2 and opted for upgradation in the college portal need not register again. Their seats will be shown as virtual vacancies.
• Candidates who joined in Round 2 but chose “NO” for upgradation, and now want to upgrade, must log in during the registration window to confirm their participation. Otherwise they will not be eligible for upgradation.
• Candidates who joined in Round 1, opted for upgradation, but were retained in Round 2 must also log in during the registration window if they want to upgrade.
• Candidates who want to retain their seats need not take part in this round. Those who opted for upgradation but now wish to retain their seat do not need to fill choices, and their seats will be retained automatically.

Important Instructions

• No fees for this quota: No processing fee, security deposit or tuition fee applies to the 7.5% special reservation for Tamil Nadu Government School students.
• Relinquishing seats: A candidate who upgrades in Round 3 must give up the Round 1 or Round 2 seat and join the Round 3 seat. They will have no rights over the earlier seat.
• Choice locking: Candidates can edit choices any number of times before locking. Once locked, choices cannot be changed. If choices are not locked by October 9, 2026 (5:00 PM), they will be locked automatically.
• Virtual vacancies: A Round 1 or Round 2 seat of a candidate who opts for upgradation is shown as a virtual vacancy in Round 3. It becomes a real vacancy only if that candidate vacates or upgrades.
• Re-allotment: Seats vacated through re-allotment will be allotted to other candidates in descending order.
• Stray vacancy: Candidates allotted a seat in Round 3 must join the allotted college. They will not be eligible for the subsequent stray vacancy round or any additional rounds.
• Joining: Candidates must report in person with original certificates and scanned copies. Certificate verification is done at the allotted college. Failure to report by the stated date and time cancels the selection.
• Self-declaration: Selected candidates must submit a self-declaration form at the time of reporting. It says the selection or admission can be forfeited if facts are suppressed or misrepresented.
• Security: Do not share your login ID, password or OTP with anyone.

Tamil Nadu MBBS/BDS 2026 Resignation Portal (Notification No. 29/SCS1(1)/2026)

The DME notification dated September 23, 2026 says the resignation portal for 2026-27 MBBS and BDS courses will open from September 28, 2026.

• Candidates log in with their original credentials, download the resignation letter and submit it to the concerned college to get their original certificates back.
• It applies only to candidates who joined in Round 1 and were retained in Round 2, and to candidates who joined in Round 2. It does not apply to candidates who have not joined their allotted seats.
• The last date for resignation will be announced later.
• Free exit: Candidates freshly allotted in Round 2, or retained from Round 1, who resign before the stipulated date will have no forfeiture of fees.
• After the stipulated date: Resigning or discontinuing after the resignation date means forfeiting the security deposit and tuition fee already paid. Candidates must also pay the discontinuation fee as per clause 23 of the Government Quota Prospectus and clause 21 of the Management Quota Prospectus.
• Once a candidate resigns on the portal, the seat is shown as vacant in the upcoming round and cannot be claimed again, so candidates should be careful before submitting.
