TN Medical Counselling 2026: State Skips New MCC Guidelines

The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DME), Tamil Nadu, has issued an official clarification confirming that the state will continue with its existing MBBS/BDS counselling procedures for the 2026-2027 academic session, despite recent updates announced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota (AIQ) seats.

The notification, dated August 3, 2026, comes after the MCC, under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), rolled out new features in its counselling scheme, including a Freeze and Float categorisation system for candidates, online document verification for Float candidates without initial physical reporting, and a digital seat surrender workflow.

What Tamil Nadu Has Clarified

According to the notification, the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee has stated that the state already operates several of these mechanisms independently and does not need to align with the MCC’s new AIQ framework this year. Key points include:

• Document Verification: Tamil Nadu already runs a centralised verification system where uploaded certificates are scrutinised at the application stage, with physical verification carried out at institutions at the time of admission.
• Online Resignation: The state has already shifted to a digital seat resignation process. All resignations permitted within stipulated dates must be completed through the official portal, www.tnmedicalselection.org, with offline resignations strictly disallowed.
• Upgradation Option: Tamil Nadu continues to offer upgradation from Round 1 to Round 2 and Round 2 to Round 3, governed by rules already laid out in the state prospectus.

No Change for 2026-2027 Session

The Committee has confirmed that counselling and admissions for Government Quota, Management Quota, Minority, and NRI seats in MBBS/BDS courses will strictly follow Government Orders G.O.(D) No.667 and G.O.(D) No.695, along with the clauses published in the State Prospectus for 2026-2027.

The notification adds that while the state’s policy remains unchanged for the current session, any future alignment with national counselling frameworks will be considered only in the interest of student welfare, with adequate advance notice before implementation.
