Telangana MBBS/BDS 2026 ST Category Ineligible Candidates List Out

Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Telangana has issued a fresh notice regarding the eligibility of candidates under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category for admission to MBBS/BDS courses under Competent Authority Quota for AY 2026-27. Based on communication from the Director, Tribal Welfare, Telangana, dated 22 September 2026, a further list of 37 candidates has been found ineligible to claim ST reservation benefits of Telangana State.

Why These Candidates Were Declared Ineligible

According to the notice, most of these candidates’ families had migrated to Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, or Maharashtra at various points before or after the state’s bifurcation. Citing the Telangana High Court’s common order dated 10 February 2025 (in Writ Petition Nos. 1255, 1359, 2493, 2506, and 2507 of 2025) and precedents such as Kukatikonda Jyothirmie vs. State of Telangana (2024), the Tribal Welfare Department held that:

• ST reservation benefits apply only in a candidate’s State of Origin, not the state they migrated to.
• The 10-year window under Section 95 of the AP Reorganization Act, 2014, allowing continuation of common admission quotas, ended on 1 June 2024.
• Candidates whose families migrated to Telangana before the formation of the state are therefore not eligible for ST-category benefits under Article 371D.

As a result, these 37 candidates will now be treated under the Open Category, subject to their eligibility and merit.

9 Candidates’ Conditionally Allotted Seats Cancelled

Out of the 37 candidates, 9 candidates had already been given conditional MBBS seat allotments in the First and Second Phases of Counselling under the ST category. Following the Tribal Welfare Department’s latest communication, these seat allotments have now been cancelled, and the candidates will be considered under the Open Category for subsequent counselling phases.

What Happens to the Cancelled Seats

The seats vacated due to this cancellation will be treated as vacant and included in the Third Phase / Mop-Up Phase of Counselling, to be allotted to eligible ST-category candidates as per applicable rules and merit.
