The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced an important update for NEET UG 2026 aspirants appearing in the upcoming re-examination. After weeks of uncertainty and stress following the cancellation of the earlier exam, students will now be allowed to choose their preferred exam city once again before the retest.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan confirmed that the revised admit cards for the NEET UG 2026 re-exam will be released by June 14, while the examination is scheduled to be held on June 21, 2026.
Students Get Another Chance to Select Exam City
One of the biggest concerns among aspirants was travelling long distances for the examination. To reduce inconvenience, NTA has decided to reopen the city preference window, allowing candidates to update or change their preferred exam centres.
This move is expected to help thousands of students who were earlier allotted centres far away from their hometowns. The correction window is likely to remain active for a limited period, and candidates are advised to regularly check the official NTA website for updates.

No Fresh Registration Required
The government has clarified that students do not need to register again for the re-examination. Existing application details will remain valid, and candidates can simply download their revised admit cards once released.
Officials have also confirmed that no additional fee will be charged for appearing in the re-test.
Security Measures to Be Stronger This Time
Following the alleged paper leak controversy that led to the cancellation of the previous exam, authorities have promised tighter security arrangements for the re-examination. Enhanced monitoring, stricter transportation of question papers, and stronger verification procedures are expected to be implemented across centres.
The Education Ministry has also hinted that future NEET exams may gradually move towards a computer-based format to improve transparency and prevent paper leak incidents.
What Should Aspirants Do Now?
With the re-exam date approaching, experts advise students to stay focused and avoid panic. Since the syllabus and exam pattern are expected to remain unchanged, aspirants should continue revising NCERT concepts, practising mock tests, and improving time management.
Students should also keep checking the official NTA portal for:
- City preference correction dates
- Admit card release updates
- Exam day guidelines
- Important announcements regarding the re-exam
For lakhs of NEET aspirants, this re-examination is another opportunity to secure a medical seat and move one step closer to their dream career in medicine. So stay positive.
