JODHPUR: Geetanjali Medical College can now participate in NEET UG counselling 2025 as a valid medical college. Their MBBS seats will be considered as per their approved intake in the seat matrix.
Earlier, as reported by edufever.com, Geetanjali Medical College in Udaipur was barred from MBBS admissions for 2025-26 due to irregularities in faculty appointments. Now, for the time being, the Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court stayed the withdrawal order of the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Hon’ble Justice Sunil Beniwal was hearing the writ petition in the case of Geetanjali Medical College vs NMC and others, who on August 1 stayed the controversial withdrawal order dated July 17, 2025, passed by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) under the NMC.

Geetanjali Medical College got renewal permission on 14 July 2025 to offer MBBS seats. But just 3 days later (on 17 July 2025), that permission was suddenly withdrawn by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB).
What did the College argue in Court through its Counsel?
Senior Advocate M.S. Singhvi, appearing on behalf of Geetanjali Medical College, raised strong objections to the NMC’s process and authority. His main arguments included:

- According to the National Medical Commission Act, this is the exclusive domain of the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).
Violation of Natural Justice:

FIR Against Former Official Misused
- The cancellation was allegedly based on an FIR against the former registrar, Mr. Mayur Rawal, who had already resigned in June 2025.
- The college argued that the case had no bearing on current faculty strength or infrastructure.
No Relevant Inspection
- No UG course inspection had taken place during the relevant time, making the withdrawal decision procedurally flawed.
Singhvi also stated that such arbitrary and opaque functioning raises concerns about the integrity, transparency, and due process within the NMC.
NMC’s Decision Under Scrutiny
The National Medical Commission, particularly UGMEB, has been facing mounting criticism over its withdrawal of seat approvals without adequate notice or defined procedure.
Several legal experts suggest that this case could open the floodgates for more petitions from affected institutions, leading to judicial scrutiny of NMC’s processes.

With this interim relief granted by the High Court, Geetanjali Medical College’s MBBS seats are back on the seat matrix for NEET UG 2025. Students considering admission to the college can now do so without uncertainty over the institution’s status.
