The National Testing Agency (NTA) has responded to claims circulating on social media regarding OMR answer sheets of NEET (UG) 2026, clarifying that the images being shared as “correct” records are digitally forged and do not match the genuine documents held on file.
What’s the Issue
Images claiming to be the “correct” OMR answer sheets of certain NEET (UG) 2026 candidates have been circulating on social media, alongside claims that the results declared for those candidates are wrong. NTA has verified each such case and issued a statement clarifying its position.
NTA’s Findings
- The genuine OMR answer sheet of every candidate concerned – bearing the correct Roll Number, Test Booklet Number, Answer Sheet barcode and serial, Test Booklet Code, and the candidate’s own name and parentage in their own handwriting, along with signatures and thumb impressions of the candidate and both invigilators – is held on record with NTA. It was made available to the candidate at their registered email address and on the candidate portal.
- The score declared for every such candidate is fully consistent with that OMR answer sheet, the official answer key notified for NEET (UG) 2026, and the calculation sheet on file. NTA states there is no evaluation error.
- The images being circulated as the “correct” OMR sheets are not documents issued by NTA. They are digitally manipulated versions of candidates’ own genuine OMR answer sheets. The alterations observed range from the introduction of additional response markings to changes in names and the authenticated signature time of an invigilator.
Legal Action Warned
NTA has clarified that creating, submitting, or circulating a fabricated or digitally altered OMR answer sheet is a cognisable offence under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. It separately attracts liability under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
What Candidates Should Do
Candidates with genuine grievances have been advised to follow the process set out in NTA’s Public Notice dated 20th July 2026, available on the official NTA website.
