The Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DME&R), Kilpauk, Chennai, acting through the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee, has issued an urgent notice for candidates applying under the Person with Benchmark Disability (PWD) category for the 2026-2027 medical counselling session. The notification, numbered 007/SCS1(1)/2026 and dated July 20, 2026, asks PWD candidates to complete their counselling application by July 23, 2026, using whatever documents are currently available, since the MCC/DGHS disability-assessment portal has not yet opened.

What the Notice Says

  • The MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) / DGHS (Directorate General of Health Services) has not yet opened the portal for assessing the functional ability of PWD candidates through the Regional Medical Board or Designated Disability Centres.
  • Candidates are advised to complete their application before July 23, 2026, using the documents currently available to them, rather than waiting for the disability-assessment portal.
  • The Regional Medical Board and Designated Disability Centres will issue the PWD Certificate only after MCC/DGHS formally commences the counselling process.
  • Once DGHS commences the process, candidates can obtain their certificates from the Regional Medical Board or Designated Disability Centres, and the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee will set up a mechanism for candidates to upload these certificates at that stage.

What This Means for Candidates

PWD candidates applying for Tamil Nadu medical counselling should not wait for the MCC/DGHS portal to open before submitting their application. The Selection Committee has made it clear that certificate submission will be handled separately, through a mechanism the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee will announce once DGHS activates the assessment process. Missing the July 23 deadline solely because the disability-certification portal isn’t live yet is not being treated as a valid reason for delay – candidates must apply first, with existing documents, and complete the certificate formalities later.
