MCC NEET UG Round 2 Counselling: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially postponed the NEET UG 2025 Round 2 counselling, which was earlier scheduled to start on August 29, 2025.

MCC NEET UG Round 2 Counselling: Reason for Delay

NMC Seat Increases Still Pending

  • On August 23, 2025, MCC released an Urgent Attention Notice.
  • The National Medical Commission (NMC) is still processing seat increases for MBBS colleges (AY 2025-26).
  • Until these new seats are finalised and added to the seat matrix, Round 2 cannot begin.
  • Authorities expect thousands of new UG and PG seats nationwide this year.

Note: Good news for students is that the delay will increase the number of available MBBS seats in Round 2.

Seat-Matrix Cleanup Across States & Institutions

  • Once NMC approvals (new colleges, seat hikes, or corrections) are issued, MCC has to:
    • Recompute the All India Quota matrix
    • Update Central & Deemed University matrices
  • State counselling rounds are also waiting for these approvals, so both state and MCC AIQ rounds move in sync.

Court & Compliance Adjustments

  • Unlike 2024, no Supreme Court stay has paused counselling this year.
  • However, individual compliance orders (seat corrections, special reliefs) require MCC to make minor edits to the seat matrix.
  • While not a major reason, it still adds to the delay.

What This Means for NEET-UG Candidates

Expect More Seats in Round 2

  • Seat hikes will likely increase cut-off flexibility and give students more choices.

Use the Delay Wisely

  • Complete PwBD verification before the last date.
  • If resigning from Round 1, ensure your resignation letter is generated online via the MCC portal (or else it will be invalid).

Trust Only Official Notices

  • MCC notices are legally binding; don’t rely on social media or unofficial updates.

Track State Counselling Too

  • Many states sync their Round 2 schedules with MCC’s seat matrix updates.
