NEET UG 2025 Alert: NTA to Focus on Picture-Based Questions!

NEET UG 2025 will give increased weight to picture-based and diagram-based questions. Aspirants should prepare by focusing on visual interpretation and diagram practice to perform well in the exam.

NEW DELHI: For NEET UG 2025, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will give more weight to picture-based and diagram-based questions. This change is expected to happen after the last four years, where these types of questions were given less importance.

Trends in NEET UG Question Papers

A detailed analysis of the NEET UG question papers from the past five years reveals distinct trends in question types. One prominent trend has been the growing presence of analytical and conceptual questions that go beyond rote memorization.

However, diagram-based and picture-based questions, which assess a candidate’s ability to visually interpret anatomical structures, experimental setups, and more, were relatively underrepresented in recent years, especially in the Biology section.

The number of diagram-based questions in Biology dropped to just 1, with 2023 being an exception when 17 questions were asked in the last few years.

Why is the NTA Expected to Change?

NTA wants to test candidates’ ability to apply knowledge practically. Picture-based questions help test students’ understanding of complex biological structures, chemical reactions, and physics principles in a practical context.

The move to focus more on picture-based questions aligns with the evolving nature of the NEET exam. The NTA is likely responding to feedback from the medical community, as well as the evolving need for candidates to demonstrate their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Importance of Picture-Based Questions

  1. Visual and Analytical Skills: These questions test students’ ability to interpret and understand scientific data through images or diagrams. In Biology, for example, candidates may be asked to identify anatomical structures or label diagrams related to plant or animal systems.
  2. Increased Focus on Application: Instead of memorizing facts, students will need to apply their knowledge to solve problems based on images and diagrams.
  3. Preparation Tips: Aspirants should focus on practicing diagram-based questions, labeling diagrams, and improving their visual understanding of key concepts.

Types of Questions to Expect

According to an analysis of past NEET exams, diagram-based questions have frequently appeared in the Biology section, particularly in topics like human anatomy, plant physiology, and molecular biology. In contrast, Physics and Chemistry have featured fewer diagram-based questions, candidates may expect the same this year too.

With the higher weightage given to picture-based questions, NEET UG 2025 candidates should practice interpreting and understanding diagrams. This will help them succeed in the exam by improving their ability to apply their knowledge in practical situations.
