Indore: The Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to halt the declaration of NEET-UG 2025 examination results, following a petition alleging disruption due to a power outage at one of the examination centres.
Justice Subodh Abhyankar issued the interim order after noting that neither the NTA nor representatives of the Union of India appeared before the court to respond, despite a previous order dated May 13 directing them to provide instructions regarding the issue.
The Court clarified that its stay order applies across the country and is not limited to any specific centre or region. This pause in result declaration could affect nearly 21 lakh candidates who appeared for NEET-UG 2025. The next hearing is scheduled to take place approximately four weeks from now.

According to the petition, a power failure occurred at around 3:30 PM during the examination held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 centre in Indore. The petition alleged that in the absence of backup electricity arrangements, candidates were forced to continue the exam in poor lighting conditions. Emergency lighting, including candles, was reportedly provided only after 4:30 PM, leaving students with less than 30 minutes of adequate visibility.
The petitioner has requested a re-examination for the affected candidates or an appropriate alternative to ensure fair evaluation.
In its order, the Court observed: “Respondents failed to provide proper conditions for the petitioner during the NEET-UG 2025 examination on 04.05.2025, due to a power failure that impacted multiple parts of the city. Accordingly, until the next date of hearing, the respondents are restrained from declaring the results.”
As of now, NTA officials have not issued any statement regarding the High Court’s directive or the allegations raised in the petition.
