The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an important advisory regarding biometric verification for candidates appearing in the NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination, scheduled to be held on June 21, 2026, at designated exam centres across India.
According to the notice, all candidates must undergo biometric verification, including fingerprint and facial recognition, after the mandatory frisking process and before entering the examination hall. The measure has been introduced as part of enhanced security arrangements to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.
What Happens if Biometric Verification Fails?
NTA has clarified that students will not be denied entry if biometric verification cannot be completed due to genuine reasons such as:
- Device hardware malfunction
- Poor-quality biometric data
- Connectivity issues with UIDAI servers
- Physical inability to provide biometric data
In such cases, candidates will be allowed to take the examination after submitting a written undertaking at the examination centre. The required format will be provided by the Centre Superintendent.
No Disturbance During the Examination
To ensure a smooth testing experience, NTA has stated that candidates will not be interrupted during the examination for biometric processing. Any pending biometric verification will be completed either before the exam begins or after it concludes.
Exam Timing
The NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination will be conducted from:
- 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM for regular candidates.
- 2:00 PM to 6:20 PM for eligible PwD/PwBD candidates receiving compensatory time.
Candidates are advised to arrive at their centres well in advance and cooperate with security personnel and examination staff during verification procedures.
Warning Against Non-Compliance
NTA has warned that refusal to undergo biometric verification without a valid documented reason may be treated as a violation of examination rules. Such cases could invite action under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
