About Directorate of Technical Education Nagaland
Nagaland has limited infrastructure and facilities for technical education. It is almost entirely dependent on central government allocations/quotas to send students for technical education, especially engineering, computer and IT studies. These students are forced to be sent out of the state, further increasing the cost of their education. Lack of technical education facilities is also one of the primary reasons contributing to the low profile of the state’s socio-economic development.
Intending to introduce flexibility and dynamism, the State Government decided that the Technical Education Sector of the erstwhile Directorate of Higher & Technical Education be transferred and merged with the new Department of Information Technology to rejuvenate the Technical Education System in the State. Accordingly, the Department of Information Technology & Technical Education became functional on 1st October 2004.
Mission:-
Technical Education contributes substantially to the Socio-Economic development of the state and the country as a whole. The development and sustenance of the industrial sector are entirely dependent upon a trained workforce to perform multidimensional activities to keep the wheels of industry running. Therefore, the Technical Education department is tasked with making available professional, technically qualified staffing for the service industry and generating self-employment for the youth of the State.
