About Directorate of Health Services Manipur
All government actions aim to promote human growth and improve people’s quality of life. The state needs highly qualified people to deal with health-related issues and promote good health. The medical education department is responsible for training medical and paramedical personnel to meet the state’s health needs:
The Directorate of Health Services Manipur is fully committed to the total health care of its people in the spirit of Health for all. The priority attention of the Department is to provide the optimum health needs of the people in general, particularly those living in rural and tribal areas of the State.
About Manipur Health Directorate Functioning & Structure
The State has one of the highest concentrations of Health Manpower per capita among the North-Eastern States. The State has two tertiary Health Care Centres (Two Medical Colleges, RIMS and JNIMS, and their attached hospitals) and 7 District Hospitals(against nine districts in the State). Further, 26 private Hospitals and Nursing Homes are registered under the “Manipur Nursing Home and Clinic Registration Act, 1992”. One hospital, namely Shija Hospital, renders tertiary health care among private hospitals. Due to the unwillingness of non-locals to join the medical colleges, almost all the doctors in the two medical colleges (having 100 intake capacities each) and their attached hospitals are manned by local doctors.
