New Delhi: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2025) is expected to open doors for over 1.18 lakh MBBS seats across India. However, approximately 50,000 seats are available in government medical colleges, which offer more affordable fees. The remaining seats are in private colleges, where tuition fees are considerably higher. It’s essential for aspirants to understand this distinction while planning their NEET UG strategy, as securing a spot in a government college significantly reduces financial burdens.
India has 118,190 MBBS seats, with 60,124 in government colleges. Out of these, about 50,000 offer affordable fees of around ₹1 lakh annually. The rest, about 10,000 seats, are available under management and NRI quotas, with fees ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹25 lakh per year. This means that roughly 42% of MBBS seats offer lower fees, while the remaining 58% have significantly higher fees, ranging from ₹30 lakh to ₹1.25 crore.
