Big news for NEET UG 2026 candidates! The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the Provisional Answer Key for NEET UG 2026 and has opened the Answer Key Challenge Window starting June 25, 2026. If you feel any answer in the provisional key is wrong, you now have the chance to formally challenge it but only until June 28, 2026.

Here is everything you need to know.

NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination: A Quick Recap

NTA conducted the Re-NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination on Sunday, 21 June 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM (IST). The exam was held across the country in a smooth and incident-free manner. Following the exam, NTA has uploaded all four sets of question papers on their official website and also released the Provisional Answer Keys. Candidates can now review the answers and raise objections if they disagree.

Why Is NTA Launching the Challenge Process Now Even Before OMR Scanning Is Done?

This is a very important point that every candidate should understand.

NTA has deliberately launched the Answer Key Challenge process at the same time as the OMR scanning, rather than waiting for scanning to finish. The reason? Transparency and speed.

By allowing expert review of challenges to run in parallel with scanning, NTA aims to publish the Final Answer Key and declare the result at the earliest possible date. This means no unnecessary delays the two processes happen side by side.

Candidates are also being given an early chance to review all four question paper sets and flag any answer they believe deserves a fresh look.

Important Rules Before You Raise a Challenge

Before you start the process, read these key rules carefully:

1. Only online challenges are accepted. No challenge submitted via email, fax, or letter will be entertained. You must go through the official portal only.

2. Challenge only under your own Question Paper Series Code. The Series Code is printed on the cover of the Test Booklet you took home from the exam centre on 21 June 2026. You do not need to raise the same challenge under multiple series codes.

3. If your challenge is accepted, the correction applies to all candidates. This means if an expert panel agrees your objection is valid, the answer key will be revised for all four sets benefiting every student, regardless of their series code.

4. Submission is one-time and final. Once you pay and submit, no changes or additions are possible. Review everything carefully before hitting submit.

5. The fee is non-refundable only if your challenge is rejected. If the expert panel accepts your challenge, you get the Rs. 200 back in full for that question. If rejected, the fee is not returned.

6. OMR sheets are not part of this stage. Your individual scanned OMR response sheet will be made available separately once OMR scanning is complete.

7. No challenge after June 28, 11:50 PM. The answer key finalized after the challenge period will be treated as absolute and final.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Challenge NEET UG 2026 Answer Key

Follow these seven steps to raise your answer key challenge:

Step 1 Enter Your Series Code – Visit https://neet.nta.nic.in/ and enter the Question Paper Series Code from the cover of your Test Booklet.

Step 2 Select Questions to Challenge – Pick the specific question(s) whose answer you want to dispute from the provisional answer key.

Step 3 Add Remarks and Upload Evidence – For each question challenged, upload documentary proof supporting your claim. Acceptable sources include standard textbooks such as NCERT (with chapter and page number) and other recognised academic publications. Only authentic, verifiable references will be considered.

Step 4 Review Your Challenges – Go through all your selected challenges one more time before proceeding. No edits are possible after final submission.

Step 5 Pay the Challenge Fee – Pay Rs. 200 per question challenged using Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking. Challenges will only be processed after successful payment is received by 28 June 2026 (up to 11:50 PM).

Step 6 Final Confirmation – Click Submit to confirm. By submitting, you confirm that the Series Code you entered matches your actual test booklet and that you wish to submit the listed challenges for expert review.

Step 7 Save Your Acknowledgement – After submission, save the acknowledgement and transaction details for your future reference.

What Happens After You Submit a Challenge?

Here is what the process looks like once your objection is in:

  • Every challenge submitted within the window goes before a panel of subject matter experts
  • Expert review runs in parallel with OMR scanning, so neither process slows the other down
  • If a challenge is found correct, the provisional answer key for that question is revised for all candidates across all four sets
  • Individual decisions will not be communicated to each candidate separately
  • The revised Final Answer Key will be published on the website before results are declared
  • The fee of Rs. 200 will be refunded for every question on which your challenge is accepted
  • Once OMR scanning is complete, results will be declared at the earliest
  • After scanning is done, candidates will get a separate opportunity to view their individual OMR response sheet

Final Takeaway for NEET 2026 Candidates

If you believe any answer in the NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key is incorrect, this is your only chance to formally raise the objection. The window is open right now and closes on June 28, 2026 at 11:50 PM. Act quickly, gather your reference material, and submit your challenge online through the official portal.

Do not wait for the last moment. Once the window closes, no grievances related to the answer key will be considered not even after the final result is declared.
