The National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted approval to 25 new medical colleges as part of the Seat Matrix for MBBS admissions for the Academic Year 2026-27. These approvals add 2,400 MBBS seats to the national intake, comprising 400 seats across 7 new government medical colleges and 2,000 seats across 18 new private medical colleges.
Why New Colleges Were Added This Year
The Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) had invited applications in December 2025 for setting up new MBBS colleges and for increasing intake capacity at existing colleges for the 2026-27 session. The newly notified matrix reflects the colleges that cleared MARB’s assessment process and received approval this year.

What This Means for NEET UG 2026 Candidates
Candidates preparing choice lists for NEET UG counselling should note that seats at these new colleges are being offered for the first time in 2026-27, so no prior year’s cutoff or admission data exists for them. Candidates are advised to check the college’s accreditation status and infrastructure details independently before including these colleges in their preference list.
