1. AIIMS, New Delhi (All India Institute of Medical Sciences)
- Location: New Delhi (with attached AIIMS & Safdarjung Hospitals).
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ, Round-1): General category opening rank 1, closing 47.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 48–186, SC 69–647, ST 219–1150. (AIIMS admits under AIQ only.)
- Fees: Extremely low – about ₹6,075 for the entire 5-year MBBS program.
- Highlights: Consistently ranked #1 among Indian medical colleges. Established in 1956, AIIMS Delhi has 125 UG seats and world-class research. It is one of the largest hospitals in India (thousands of beds at AIIMS + Safdarjung) and is known for top-tier teaching, advanced labs and free/super-speciality patient care.
2. JIPMER, Puducherry
- Location: Puducherry (Union Territory on the east coast).
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ): General category opening 38, closing 350.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 387–807, SC 768–6,616, ST 1,166–8,697. (Also admits via AIQ only.)
- Fees: Very low – about ₹6,770 per year (total ~₹33,850 for 5 years).
- Highlights: JIPMER is an Institute of National Importance and was ranked #5 (NIRF 2024) among medical colleges. Founded in 1956, it is a top tertiary referral hospital with a strong emphasis on undergraduate teaching. 3. Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi
- Location: Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ): General category opening 235, closing 1,014.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 1,034–1,585, SC 4,225–14,449, ST 17,631–23,860. (BHU is a central university; admissions are via AIQ only.)
- Fees: Very affordable, around ₹30,000–40,000 total for the entire MBBS (exact official fees are low).
- Highlights: BHU (founded in 1916) is a prestigious central university. Its medical college and hospital are among the oldest in India. It was ranked #7 (NIRF 2024) in the medical category. BHU offers strong academics and research, with a large hospital and over 125 UG seats. The campus location in Varanasi is scenic and traditional, with ample patient load for clinical experience.
4. Madras Medical College (Government General Hospital), Chennai
- Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ): General category opening 100, closing 1,023.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 1,042–1,241, SC 6,796–10,376, ST 38,125–48,469. (Also through AIQ.)
- Fees: Very low – on the order of ₹25,000 total for the course (tuition is nominal in state colleges).
- Highlights: Established in 1835, Madras Medical College is one of India’s oldest medical schools. It was ranked #10 (NIRF 2024) in the medical category. It has 250 UG seats (including quota) and a huge attached hospital (Government General Hospital) with enormous patient inflow. This gives excellent clinical exposure. The college is centrally located in Chennai with a strong alumni network.
5. KGMU, Lucknow (King George’s Medical University)
- Location: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
- 2024 NEET Cutoff: General category AIQ opening 326, closing 1,352. State Quota (UP) seats have a closing rank of ~1,800–2,500 (expected).
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 1,649–1,925, SC 8,661–14,795, ST 25,046–27,545. (UP state quota has separate cutoffs; e.g. general closed ~3,000.)
- Fees: About ₹54,600 total (AIQ) or ₹45,600 (UP state quota).
- Highlights: KGMU (est. 1906) is the flagship medical university of UP and was ranked among the top-10 government medical colleges. It has a 4,500-bed hospital network (including trauma and cardiology centres) and trains ~2,000 students (UG+PG) annually. World-class facilities include robotic surgery, advanced ICU, 3T MRI/PET-CT. It offers 250 MBBS seats (15% AIQ, 85% UP quota) and is known for rich clinical exposure – ~8,000 OPD visits and 200+ surgeries per day. KGMU also has sports and separate hostels for students.
6. VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi
- Location: New Delhi (Safdarjung area).
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ): General category opening 54, closing 141.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 192–327, SC 766–1,749, ST 7,205–8,852. (Delhi state quota seats exist separately.)
- Fees: About ₹50,000 per year for MBBS (government college fees are modest).
- Highlights: Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) with Safdarjung Hospital is a leading Delhi government medical college. It was NIRF rank #16 (2024). Established in 2002, it offers 250 MBBS seats (150 for women) and runs a huge hospital (2,000+ beds) that sees a vast patient load. Being in Delhi, it has the advantage of internships and research in the national capital. It has modern labs and facilities and is affiliated with Delhi University.
7. AIIMS Jodhpur
- Location: Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ): General opening 56, closing 374.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 379–695, SC 1,257–4,912, ST 1,763–10,281.
- Fees: About ₹8,140 for the entire MBBS course.
- Highlights: AIIMS Jodhpur (est. 2012) is a rapidly growing institute of national importance. It has 125 MBBS seats and a 1,000+ bed hospital. The college is well-equipped with modern operating theatres, advanced diagnostics and research labs. Being relatively new, the campus has modern infrastructure. It offers strong postgraduate training and has collaborations in medical research.
8. AIIMS Rishikesh
- Location: Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ): General opening 241, closing 731.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 749–1,133, SC 1,783–8,393, ST 10,065–19,156.
- Fees: Around ₹51,520 total for MBBS.
- Highlights: Founded in 2012, AIIMS Rishikesh is nestled in the Himalayan foothills. It offers about 100 MBBS seats. The institute has quickly developed into a well-regarded hospital and college, with advanced facilities and research programs. The serene location is a plus, though urban infrastructure is still growing. (AIIMS Rishikesh had an NIRF rank in the mid-20s.) Students benefit from dedicated faculty and a calm campus environment.
9. AIIMS Bhubaneswar
- Location: Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ): General opening 97, closing 594.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 640–1,252, SC 804–7,879, ST 4,619–17,557.
- Fees: About ₹26,424 for the full MBBS course.
- Highlights: AIIMS Bhubaneswar (est. 2012) holds NIRF rank #17 in 2024. It has 125 MBBS seats and a large hospital. The college offers strong clinical training and has rapidly expanded specialities (cardiology, neurosciences, etc.). The city has a pleasant campus environment. Odisha state quota counselling also applies here.
10. IPGMER, Kolkata (Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research)
- Location: Kolkata, West Bengal.
- 2024 NEET Cutoff (AIQ): General opening 1,304, closing 2,699.
- Category-wise AIQ cutoffs: OBC 3,040–4,335, SC 19,736–27,613, ST 68,930–72,186.
- Fees: Modest – on the order of ₹20,000–30,000 total (in-state fees are very low).
- Highlights: IPGMER (also known as SSKM Hospital) is the premier government medical college of Eastern India. It is affiliated with West Bengal University of Health Sciences and offers 250 MBBS seats. The institute is over 60 years old and has a huge hospital in central Kolkata. It was ranked 21 in the 2024 NIRF Ranking. Students get exposure to a wide variety of cases in a metropolitan setting. Kolkata is a major city with a rich cultural and academic environment.
